Reims vs Montpellier prediction

Montpellier find themselves in a rather comfortable position seven points above the bottom three, but one more point or win would likely secure their Ligue 1 status. On the other hand, Reims still have an outside chance of making Europe, although it will take an unbeaten end to the season.

Key stats

  • Reims have kept just two Ligue 1 clean sheets in 2024
  • Montpellier have scored in 11 straight games across all competitions
  • La Paillade have only lost to PSG in their last six matches

Pre-game odds and win probability: Reims tipped to maintain their push for Europe

Home: 1/1 (2.0) – 50%

Draw: 13/5 (3.6) – 27.8%

Away: 5/2 (3.5) – 28.6%

Montpellier have been on a very impressive run of form as of late, but the bookmakers are disregarding that and putting Reims as the overwhelming favourites. The odds being offered for both sides are putting us off the outright betting market and you can find much better options on our free betting tips page.

Given how impressive Montpellier have been as of late, we believe that backing them to win and both teams scoring could provide some excellent value, given how little faith the bookmakers have in La Paillade

Last five H2Hs: All or nothing in this picture for both sides

In three of the last five meetings between Reims and Montpellier, at least one side has scored three goals – there was also a 3-3 in 2022 – so goals are on the cards. However, the other two games have ended 1-1 and 0-0 so these matches either have fireworks or, are rather dull.

Reims preview: Any more slip-ups will end European aspirations

While Reims have won just once in their last six games, teams above them have not been able to pull away in the table. So, this has allowed them to keep within touching distance of at least a Europa Conference League spot, although anything but wins for the rest of the camping would kill off those dreams.

Montpellier preview: One more point required

It would take an almighty uptick in form from the teams below Montpellier for them to be sucked into the bottom three before the end of the season. So, if they can pick up one more point it would likely see them move too far ahead for anyone to catch them.

Reims' Junya Ito
Junya Ito has registered the 12th most shot-creating actions per 90 minutes in Ligue 1 – Photo by Icon Sport

Player to watch: Junya Ito

Junya Ito doesn't necessarily have the eye-watering attacking numbers on paper in terms of goals and assists, but that is largely down to his teammates being unable to finish off his chances.

More goals and assists are a matter of time

Ito is creating 4.53 shot-creating actions per 90 minutes – the best out of any Reims player to have started a Ligue 1 game – so for him to only have six assists is quite mindblowing.

So, if Reims can provide Ito with a teammate capable of consistently finding the back of the net, then he will become a hotly wanted winger.
