Real Betis welcome Deportivo Alaves to the Estadio Olimpico de la Cartuja this Friday night for their first home game of the new season.
Manuel Pellegrini's side enjoyed a terrific season last term, bagging themselves a top six finish and automatic qualification for the Europa League. Betis kicked off their new campaign with a 1-1 draw at Elche, and they will be looking to bag their first win on matchday two. That, however, is a lot easier said than done, considering Alaves are unbeaten against Los Verdiblancos in five matches.

Real Betis vs Alaves prediction: Another draw on the cards
Key Stats
- Three of the last four La Liga meetings between Real Betis and Alaves have ended in draws.
- Alaves have only lost one of their last seven away games across all competitions.
- Real Betis have lost just one of their last 10 home games – a 2-1 defeat to Villarreal back in April.
Correct score prediction: Real Betis 1-1 Alaves
Real Betis have got a lot to look forward to this season, but we are not expecting Pellegrini's men to pick up their first win on Friday against Alaves.
Betis were not all that impressive against Elche last weekend, and they have struggled against their upcoming opponents in recent years. Alaves, on the other hand, are coming into this game on the back of an encouraging 2-1 victory over Levante – a result which will fill them with confidence ahead of their trip to Seville.

Most recent H2Hs: Alaves looking to cause more problems
Between 2020 and 2022, Real Betis enjoyed an impressive run of four straight wins over Alaves. However, Pellegrini's men have failed to taste victory since then.
The last five meetings have seen three draws and two Alaves victories – including one in the Copa del Rey. It is also worth mentioning that two of the three draws were goalless.

Real Betis preview: Hosts hoping for home fortunes
It took Real Betis four games to get their first La Liga victory last season – a run they will be looking to avoid on this occasion. A 1-1 draw against Elche last weekend was somewhat disappointing, with Betis hoping for big improvements as they prepare for their first game at home.
The hosts head into the fixture without Deossa Nelson, who is struggling with an ankle injury, and Isco, who is recovering from a nasty leg break. Abde Ezzalzouli, Diego Llorente and Marc Roca are also doubts.
Predicted lineup: Lopez (GK), Rodriguez, Natan, Bartra, Bellerin, Fornals, Altimira, Riquelme, Lo Celso, Ruibal & Cucho Hernandez

Alaves preview: Visitors ready for another upset
Alaves have done well against Real Betis in recent years, and they will be hoping to continue that run when they travel to Seville this Friday night.
After bagging an impressive 2-1 win over Levante last weekend, Babazorros will be setting their sights on successive La Liga victories. Considering they only won three away league matches last season, that won't be easy.
In terms of absentees, the only real worry for the visitors concerns Hugo Novoa Ramos, who is still struggling with an ankle problem.
Predicted lineup: Sivera (GK), Jonny Otto, Parada, Garces, Tenaglia, Blanco, Ibanez, Alena, Guridi, Vicente & Martinez.

Player to watch: Giovani Lo Celso
Former Tottenham, Villarreal and PSG midfielder Giovani Lo Celso is one of the star names in the Real Betis squad, and he is expected to cause Alaves some serious problems.

The Argentinian scored eight goals and produced three assists in the league last season, while also helping the team to the final of the UEFA Europa Conference League – one which ultimately ended in defeat to Chelsea.
The midfielder enjoyed a solid performance against Elche in the opening game of the season last weekend, and we are expecting more good things from Lo Celso against Alaves.
