Reading – Bristol Rovers preview: latest form, news, and potential lineups

Read all of the latest injury updates and team news for this duel, including our predicted Reading vs Bristol Rovers lineups.

Reading

Reading are in limbo right now. Lost 5 consecutive league games and this combined with delayed wages and points deduction leaves the Royals dead last and adrift from safety.

The manner of the last league defeat was extremely painful too. Reading took a 2-0 lead against leaders Portsmouth only for a red card to turn the flow of the match. Eventually, Reading lost 2-3.

Some confidence was restored on Saturday when Reading beat League Two MK Dons 3-2 in the FA Cup. Used many of the reserves in that match but as they did well some might be given another chance on Tuesday.

Star midfielder Mbengue was the player sent off in the last round so now he will be serving a ban. Don’t have serious injury issues with only a handful of backup players set to miss the game.

Predicted Lineup:

Button (GK), Yiadom, Dean, Abbey, Guinness-Walker, Craig, Wing, Savage, Knibbs, Azeez & Vickers

Bristol Rovers

Since sacking coach Joye Barton Bristol Rovers secured back-to-back wins. In the last round beat Northampton 2-1 in a tight match that was decided early on with the Gas scoring both their goals inside the opening 40 minutes.

On Saturday Bristol’s confidence grew further with an impressive 7-2 trashing of Whitby Town in the FA Cup. In both those matches the U19 coaching staff served as interim managerial option and this is likely to happen again.

Bristol continue to have many injury issues and on top of that the in-form playmaker Evans is serving a ban now. There are 6 others that nurse injuries, with at least 4 of them regular starters when fit. From those that are not fully fit right-back Hunt and inner midfielder Ward are closest to being available.

Predicted Lineup:

Cox (GK), Grant, Crama, Taylor, Friend, Bogarde, Finlay, Vale, Thomas, Collins & Martin

Starting Lineups

The teams usually announce their starting lineups one hour before the start of the game.

Player to Watch: David Button

Reading needs inspiration from somewhere and their experienced goalie David Button could be the best hope to provide it right now. Despite the many conceded goals Button has been the only solid performer in every round so far.

Button is capable of great displays and he will need to be at his best if Reading are to stop the bleeding and start winning again.
