There is a sense of de ja vu engulfing Rangers at the beginning of this season, with Derek McIness already being compared with Russell Martin, who was sacked after just 17 matches in charge last season.
McIness is just four competitive matches into his reign at Ibrox, but with zero wins to his name, and the club already out of the Europa League, another defeat this weekend would genuinely open up some uncomfortable conversations.
Earlier this week, Rangers failed to beat Jagiellonia Białystok at Ibrox, prompting their supporters to boo them off the pitch. In truth, Gers would perhaps rather this match was away from home, such is the toxicity building in Glasgow.
McInnes has a few decisions to make on personnel this weekend, with Youssef Chermiti, Jose Cifuentes and Ben Godfrey all injured.
As for St. Mirren, they couldn't have asked for a better start to the season. Along with Celtic, they are the only team in the Scottish Premiership to have a 100% record in the league, and made it through their League Cup with relative ease.
The reward for topping their group is a clash with Rangers, and while that traditionally would have been seen as one of the two worst draws possible, there will be belief in the camp that they can come out on top this weekend.
What will give St. Mirren even more confidence this weekend is the fact that they are the defending League Cup champions. Last year, they overcame Hearts, Kilmarnock, Motherwell and Celtic to win the trophy, so big cup matches are not something this group will be fazed by.
Manager Craig McLeish will go with his strongest possible XI here, with Jonah Ayunga, Keanu Baccus and Ryan Mullen all ruled out through injury.
