After a difficult start to the season under Derek McIness, Rangers look as if they are slowly turning a corner and heading back in the right direction.
Although the club will play no European football this season following a summer of disastrous qualifying results, there is renewed belief that they can enjoy domestic success after winning their last three league and cup matches.
Rumours about McIness' future have also died down, although you are only ever one bad result from disaster at Rangers and considering they are already five points behind Celtic, there is a feeling that they must keep winning.
For the match against Motherwell, McIness will be without the injured trio of Tuur Rommens, Youssef Chermiti and Jose Cifuentes.
As for Motherwell, their early season form has been in complete contrast to Rangers'. Life under Alfred Johansson started brightly, but they have now lost three of their last five matches.
In their defence, two of those defeats were against Freiburg, last season's Europa League runners-up, so the form guide perhaps paints an inaccurate picture, but defeat to Stenhousemuir is difficult to justify.
Away from the cups, their league form has been solid, and after four matches, they have yet to lose. An away trip to Ibrox represents their most challenging league fixture to date.
Like Rangers, Motherwell are missing three players due to injury, with Jordan McGhee, Callum Hendry and Paul McGinn all in the treatment room.
