Rangers to win

Rangers have won four of their last five home cup matches.

Rangers will take on Genk in the Europa League on Thursday, 25 September, with Russell Martin still under immense pressure at Ibrox.

The hosts have had a shocking start to the season in all competitions, but a win in Europe this week could give Martin some breathing space, for a couple of days at least.

Their opponents, Genk, have had a poor start to their domestic season, too. After eight matches played, the Belgian side find themselves in the bottom half of the Belgian Pro League.

As part of this week's round of Europa League betting tips, check out our Rangers vs Genk prediction below.

Rangers vs Genk prediction: The hosts to pick up the win

Key Stats

  • Genk have won just one of their last five matches in all competitions.
  • Genk have won just two of their last seven European away matches.
  • Both teams have scored in three of Rangers' last five European matches.

Correct score prediction: Rangers 2-1 Genk

Rangers will have taken confidence from their League Cup win over Hibernian at the weekend, and despite the protests against Russell Martin, the players stuck to their jobs and got the win. It could be a similar night on Thursday but Genk's poor form makes them just as vulnerable.

Pre-game odds and win probability: Too close to call

  • HOME: 7/5 (2.40) – 41.7%
  • DRAW: 27/10 (3.70) – 27%
  • AWAY: 13/8 (2.63) – 38.1%

*odds from Ladbrokes, subject to change

The Rangers vs Genk odds indicate just how tight this match is to call, with all three results very much on the table. Ladbrokes have made Rangers the narrowest of favourites, giving them a 41.7% chance of winning the match, while Genk have been given a 38.1% chance of victory.

Most recent H2Hs: A first-ever meeting

This will be the first time that Rangers and Genk have ever played against each other.

Rangers preview: Aarons misses out

Rangers will be without the services of Max Aarons on Thursday night, as the full-back serves his suspension for being sent off against Club Brugge in the club's most recent European fixture. Joining Aarons on the sidelines is Dujon Sterling, who won't play again this year.

Predicted lineup: Butland (GK), Tavernier, Souttar, Cornelius, Meghoma, Raskin, Diomande, Raskin, Moore, Aasgaard, Gassama; Miovski

Last five results

  • Rangers 2-0 Hibernian
  • Rangers 0-2 Hearts
  • Rangers 0-0 Celtic
  • Club Brugge 6-0 Rangers
  • Rangers 1-1 St. Mirren

Genk preview: A trio of doubts

Genk could be without three important players on Thursday night, with Konstantinos Karetsas almost certainly out with a back injury and Yira Collins Sor and Daan Heymans both carrying knocks. The Belgian side would likely be happy with a point from this fixture.

Predicted lineup: Lawal (GK), Ouahdi, Sadick, Smets, Ditu, Bangoura, Heynen, Ito, Steuckers, Adedeji-Sternberg, Oh

Last five results

  • Genk 1-2 Union SG
  • Genk 0-1 Charleroi
  • Anderlecht 1-1 Genk
  • Genk 3-2 Waregem
  • Genk 1-2 Lech

Player to watch: Mikey Moore

Given how toxic things currently are at Ibrox, Tottenham are probably regretting their decision to send Mikey Moore on loan to Rangers. The teenager has immense potential, but the situation at Rangers is making it difficult for him to showcase his talents. Can he find something on Thursday night?
