Home to win

PSV have won four of their last five home games in all competitions.

The Champions League group stage kicks off with an exciting encounter as PSV Eindhoven host Union Saint-Gilloise at the Philips Stadion on Tuesday, with both teams looking to make a strong start to their European campaign.

The home team come into this match in good recent form following their 5-3 away win over Nijmegen in the Eredivisie. The visitors’ recent form has also been impressive, as they are undefeated in their last five league games, recently beating Dender 1-0 on the road in the Jupiler Pro League.

PSV vs Union SG prediction: PSV tipped as favourite to win

Key statistics

  • PSV defeated Union SG in a friendly game in their only meeting.
  • Over 2.5 goals have been scored in four of PSV’s last five games.
  • PSV have picked up four wins in their last five home matches.

Correct score prediction: PSV 3-0 Union SG

Union SG are coming into the new Champions League format inexperienced and we are taking that into account in our prediction. We are predicting a 3–0 win for the Farmers, following the Dutch side’s excellent form at home.

While the Unionists have been in good form, they have not yet faced a team with the same level of experience and quality as PSV in the Champions League. With their superior firepower and proven record in big matches, PSV should have enough to secure a comfortable and convincing victory.

  • Draw: 29/10 (3.90) – 25.6%

Most recent head-to-head: Just one meeting between both teams

There is not much recent head-to-head history between PSV and Union SG. The two sides have only faced each other once in recent times, a friendly played in July of this year, which Peter Bosz’s side won 1–0.

With so little data to go on, past meetings do not offer a clear picture of how this fixture might unfold. However, that narrow victory and their recent form will give the Dutch side a small boost of confidence going into this clash.

PSV preview: Few players out injured

Bosz’s team are facing some important injury concerns going into this match. Defender Wessel Kuhn is unavailable with a knee injury, while Mauro Junior is also ruled out due to an ankle problem.

To make matters worse, striker Alassane Plea has suffered a serious knee injury that will keep him out for the rest of the year. These absences reduce PSV’s squad depth and could affect both their defensive stability and attacking options.

Player to watch: Ruben van Bommel

Ruben van Bommel has started the season in excellent form for PSV and he is one player to look out for in this game. In his last five appearances for the club, the young forward has scored two goals. His recent performances demonstrate his ability to be a key attacking threat and he will be a player Union SG must keep a close eye on.
