PSV to win + BTTS

PSV Eindhoven have won 19 of their last 20 games against PEC Zwolle since April 2015.

PSV Eindhoven are back on home turf for the first time since being named league champions when they take on PEC Zwolle in round 31 of the Eredivisie on Thursday. As for Henry van der Vegt’s men, they could guarantee their top-flight status for another season with all three points and we expect them to go all out at the Philips Stadion.

In their first outing since clinching the Eredivisie title, PSV Eindhoven turned in a dominant team display last time, when they secured a 2-0 victory over Sparta Rotterdam on April 11.

In a fairly one-sided affair at the Het Kasteel Stadium, Ricardo Pepi broke the deadlock on the stroke of half time to put the visitors in front going into the break before Ismail Saibari struck in the 80th minute to double the advantage.

This followed a thrilling 4-3 victory over Utrecht on April 4, a result which sealed the league crown for Peter Bosz’s men after second-placed Feyenoord was held to a goalless draw by Volendam at the Kras Stadion on April 5.

With 24 wins from 30 Eredivisie matches, it has been another stellar campaign for PSV, who have become league champions for the third consecutive season while clinching the crown for a 27th time, nine behind all-time leading champions Ajax.

PSV have made their home turf a fortress this season, with just two defeats coming in the league so far — a 2-0 loss against Telstar on August 30 before suffering a narrow 3-2 defeat at the hands of NEC Nijmegen on March 14.

Ruthlessness at the attacking end of the pitch has also been a key factor in their league success, with Boeren netting 84 goals in their 30 matches so far, 12 more than any other side in the division with four games to go.

On the other hand, PEC Zwolle dropped two more points at the wrong end of the league table last weekend when they were held to a 2-2 draw by Excelsior at the Mac3Park Stadion.

Goals from Thijs Oosting and Odysseus Velanas on either side of Derensili Sanches Fernandes’s 16th-minute equaliser put the hosts on course for back-to-back home wins since January, but Szymon Wlodarczyk struck in the 80th minute to hand Excelsior a share of the spoils.

Prior to that, PEC Zwolle snapped their run of six consecutive games without a win on March 21 courtesy of a 2-1 home victory over NAC Breda, two weeks before crashing back to earth in a 5-0 hammering at the hands of Go Ahead Eagles.

Following an impressive 10th-placed finish last term, Van der Vegt’s men have won just eight of their 30 Eredivisie matches so far while losing 12 and claiming 10 draws to collect 34 points and sit 13th in the table, seven points above 16th-placed Telstar in the relegation playoff spot heading into the final four matches.

While victory on Thursday will put Zwolle in the clear and guarantee their safety, they journey to Philips Stadion, where they have lost each of their last 10 visits, conceding 39 goals and scoring eight since a 1-1 draw back in November 2013.

Whispers predicts: PSV Eindhoven 3-1 PEC Zwolle

Guaranteeing their top-flight status at the earliest opportunity remains the priority for PEC Zwolle, and they will fancy their chances against a PSV side who have little to play for following a successful title defence.

However, PSV’s home record in this fixture speaks for itself, and given they boast a superior and more experienced squad on paper, we are backing them to come away with all three points, currently priced at 1.22.

With each of their last 10 meetings seeing at least three goals scored and PSV managing just one clean sheet in their last 10 outings, we anticipate another high-scoring contest at the Philips Stadion, with PSV to win + BTTS at 2.10 offering value.

PSV have led at half time in four of their last five games against Zwolle, and we predict 1/1 currently priced at 1.61, while the correct score market has a correct score of 3-1 at 10.00.
