PSG to win (-1.5 handicap)

PSG have won two of their last three home Champions League matches by a margin of two goals or more.

PSG will take on Newcastle on Wednesday, 28 January as part of the final round of UEFA Champions League league phase fixtures.

There is an argument that this is the biggest of all matches this week, with a place in the top eight on the line for both clubs. A win for either side would be enough for Round of 16 qualification, while a draw could see both drop out.

As part of this week's round of UEFA Champions League betting tips, check out our PSG vs Newcastle prediction below.

PSG vs Newcastle prediction: The hosts to blow the Magpies away

Key Stats

  • PSG have won seven of their last nine matches in all competitions.
  • Newcastle have won just one of their last four matches in all competitions.
  • Both teams have scored in five of PSG'S seven Champions League matches this season.

Correct score prediction: PSG 3-1 Newcastle

Newcastle have been poor away all season, so there is no reason to believe that they will rock up at the home of the European champions and pull off a shock. PSG are yet to get properly going, but matches of this size have been their bread and butter under Luis Enrique.

Pre-game odds and win probability: Newcastle go in as the underdogs

  • HOME: 8/15 (1.53) – 65.2%
  • DRAW: 7/2 (4.50) 22.2%
  • AWAY: 9/2 (5.50) – 18.2%

*odds from Ladbrokes, subject to change

The PSG vs Newcastle odds are a little surprising in that there is good value to be had on a straight home win. Ladbrokes have given PSG a 65.2% chance of winning the match, which feels low, while Newcastle have been given an 18.2% chance of victory.

PSG preview: Hakimi to return from AFCON heartbreak?

Morocco captain Achraf Hakimi could start his first match for PSG since returning from AFCON, although he faces a late fitness test.

Should he fall short, he would join a list of absentees that also includes Marvey Safonov, Fabian Ruiz, Lee Kang-in, Joao Neves, Quentin Ndjantou and possibly Nuno Mendes, although the latter has not been completely ruled out of featuring against the Magpies.

Any need to rush Mendes back is lessened by both the return of Lucas Hernandez from his two-game Champions League ban, and the knowledge that Mendes would miss the next match if he picks up a booking on Wednesday night.

Predicted lineup: Chevalier (GK), Zaire-Emery, Marquinhos, Pacho, Hernandez, Vitinha, Mayulu, Mbaye, Doue, Dembele, Kvaratskhelia

Last five results

  • Auxerre 0-1 PSG
  • Sporting 2-1 PSG
  • PSG 3-0 Lille
  • PSG 0-1 Paris FC
  • PSG 3-2 Marseille

Newcastle preview: Doubts over key man

Eddie Howe is sweating over the fitness of Bruno Guimaraes, with the Brazilian nursing an ankle injury ahead of the trip to Paris. While Guimaraes is considered touch-and-go, the Magpies are definitely without Jacob Murphy, Tino Livramento, Jamaal Lascelles and Fabian Schar.

Predicted lineup: Pope (GK), Trippier, Burn, Botman, Hall, Tonali, Miley, Joelinton, Barnes, Wissa, Gordon

Last five results

  • Newcastle 0-2 Aston Villa
  • Newcastle 3-0 PSV
  • Wolves 0-0 Newcastle
  • Newcastle 0-2 Man City
  • Newcastle 2-2 Bournemouth

Player to watch: Ousmane Dembele

Ousmane Dembele made his long-awaited return from injury at the end of December, and he has wasted little time getting back up to speed. The Frenchman has scored five goals and provided three assists in the eight games he has played since returning.
