Premier League players left out of club squads after transfer deadline day

The 2026 summer transfer window is now shut, and Premier League clubs have once again set new spending records.

Five players were bought for fees of at least £100m, while 11 teams broke their personal transfer record, with some breaking records more than once.

All 20 teams have now submitted their squads to the Premier League, but with over £3bn having been spent, it comes as no surprise to see some players excluded.

Here, Football Whispers provides a comprehensive look at the Premier League players left out of club squads following the closure of the transfer window.

Premier League rules state that teams can have no more than 17 non-home grown players in their squad, with a player counting as home grown if they have been registered with an FA or FAW-affiliated club for three full seasons before either their 21st birthday or the end of the season in which they turned 21.

It should be noted that a club's Under-21 players are not included on their 25-man squad lists, so any player born on or after January 1, 2007 for the 2026-27 season will count as Under-21.

As such, Liverpool duo Kaide Gordon and Owen Beck have been excluded from the Reds' squad, while Josh Wilson-Esbrand has been left out of Manchester City's squad for the same reason.

Other sides in the Premier League have left out players simply because others have been preferred, with Hull leaving both Kieran Dowell and David Akintola out.

That decision from the Tigers came as no surprise given they ended the summer transfer window with 19 new additions.

Coventry City also left out defender Jake Bidwell, while it has been reported that Ipswich Town view veteran goalkeeper David Button as a training player.

Most high-profile exclusion: Tottenham leave Richarlison out

Tottenham's decision to leave striker Richarlison out of their squad was remarkable, with Roberto De Zerbi making it known to the player that he does not see him as part of Spurs' future.

The 29-year-old failed to secure a move back to Everton, and unless a transfer to the Turkish Super Lig or the Saudi Pro League materialises, he will not play senior football for the rest of the year.

Spurs have signed a number of forwards, with Omar Marmoush, Savinho and Mykhaylo Mudryk joining, and the trio have bolstered a group that already featured the likes of Dominic Solanke.

However, it was still a shock to see De Zerbi leave Richarlison completely out of his plans, and fans will hope the situation does not become toxic.
