Portsmouth
Portsmouth remain the only undefeated team in League One (W8 D4) and they have been playing excellent football at both ends of the pitch in recent weeks. Pompey are very solid defensively on home turf but they are also very efficient in attack.
This was displayed again on Tuesday when an easy 5-1 win vs Gillingham was achieved in the EFL trophy. This is the sixth consecutive win for Pompey.
Manager John Mousinho will have his squad boosted by the returns of important centre-back Poole and playmaker Robertson. Both sat out the last league game suspended but can return now.
Pompey’s rotation options in midfield remain limited with a quartet of midfielders in the treatment room right now. From them, Marlon Pack is the only one that starts often when fit.
Predicted Lineup:
Norris (GK), Rafferty, Poole, Shaughnessy, Sparkes, Robertson, Morrell, Whyte, Kamara, Lane & Bishop
Carlisle
Carlisle stopped a 5-game winless run recently with an impressive 3-1 away victory vs Bolton. The Cumbrians failed to follow that with another positive result though and last weekend they were way too passive and deservedly lost 0-1 vs Leyton Orient.
With a single win in the last 7 rounds, Carlisle started to slip down in trouble and they continue to struggle for goals.
To make matters worse Carlisle will travel for this game without their best centre-back. Paul Huntingdon will miss multiple weeks after sustaining a knee injury. Starting striker Kayode is also unavailable and this is one of the reasons why Carlisle struggle for goals right now.
Predicted Lineup:
Holy (GK), Back, Lavelle, Mellish, Armer, Guy, McCalmont, Moxon, Gibson, Garner & Maguire
Starting Lineups
The teams usually announce their starting lineups one hour before the start of the game.
Player to Watch: Will Norris
One of the main reasons why Pompey are undefeated after 12 rounds is their amazing goalkeeper Will Norris. The 30-year-old shot-stopper has been in excellent form so far and we back him to record yet another clean sheet.
