Port Vale
Port Vale started the new season with a shameful 0-7 away loss vs Barnsley. The Valiants responded to that convincingly though and they have been near-perfect in their last 4 games (W3 D1).
Last weekend Vale edged Charlton 3-2 away from home. This was the second 3-2 win of the season for the Valiants and they continue to have issues defensively but at least have found their stride in attack.
This is despite missing striker Harrison in the last 3 matches. He’s nursing a calf issue and is likely to remain out again. The only other absentee is the sidelined playmaker Conlon. Garrity doing pretty well anyway so this is not a big problem.
Predicted Lineup:
Ripley (GK), Smith, Jones, Iacovitti, Sang, Arblaster, Ojo, Grant, Garrity, Chislett & Wilson
Carlisle
The Cumbrians are finding life difficult back in League One after their promotion last spring. Carlisle are yet to win this season (D2 L3). Last weekend they were pretty flat when losing 0-2 vs Exeter.
So far the main goal had been trying to add players on loan to improve the quality and this has yet to materialise. With only days left of the transfer window, Carlisle are predicted to sign 4-5 new names before the weekend so some of those could bring a positive change.
Winger Terry Ablade has already joined on loan from Fulham and he’s likely to play some part straight away.
Predicted Lineup:
Holy (GK), Lavelle, Huntingdon, Mellish, Back, Gibson, Guy, Moxon, Armer, Edmondson & Maguire
Starting Lineups
The teams usually announce their starting lineups one hour before the start of the game.
Player to Watch: Ben Garrity
Port Vale’s main ball distributor Ben Garrity has been in fine form lately. He averages 3.6 big chances created per match in the last 3 rounds. Garrity is on set-piece duties too and he’s been involved in almost every goal Port Vale have scored so far.
We expect to see another accomplished and dominant performance from Garrity against the Cumbrians.
