Blackpool to land first blow
Both Oxford and Blackpool ended the season in good form as they each took 12 points from the last 15 available. We lean towards Blackpool in our prediction though. Why? Well, their form has been maintained over a pretty insane run now with just two losses in 22 matches. Oxford lost eight in that same period. Then there is the head to head history to consider. Oxford and Blackpool obviously played twice in the league this season with Oxford failing to win either; most notable is the fact Blackpool won at the Kassam Stadium in March.
A tight game
Making a prediction of under 2.5 goals seems close to madness when Oxford have seen 20 goals in their last five matches with all of them breaking the 2.5 mark. We have a reason for this tip though. Blackpool's recent games have come in short of three goals in seven of their last 10 including their last two league games. Again, as with our first prediction, the h2h record backs this up further as neither game saw more than two goals.
A clean sheet for someone
Our last prediction follows a similar pattern to the previous one in that it goes against the form of Oxford. They have scored in every game since recording back to back blanks in late March – the first of those two games was against Blackpool – whilst their defence hasn't been particularly formidable. Blackpool have been much more solid. In their last 10 games of the season they shipped just five goals with the last eight all ending with at least one ‘nil' in the score line. Three of the last five meetings between these sides has ended with at least one team failing to score too.

Blackpool to take first leg advantage
When it comes to the playoff semi-finals you often have a team that earned their spot with late momentum vs a team that are dejected from missing out in automatic promotion. That's not the case here with both teams having ended the season strongly with the top two long gone from their list of realistic targets. That means we have two teams who are bang at it. Let's enjoy watching the action unfold.
