Oliver Glasner sack odds – Why Nottingham Forest manager could be next to lose his job

Oliver Glasner arrived at Nottingham Forest in the summer with a reputation as one of the Premier League’s most reliable trophy-winners.

Three months into his new position, that reputation is already being tested as he faces being sacked by the club.

The Austrian took over at the City Ground after walking away from Crystal Palace, lured by owner Evangelos Marinakis’ personal pitch and the club’s European ambitions.

However, things have not gone to plan, as the Tricky Trees sit in the relegation zone after a difficult start.

With the pressure mounting at the City Ground, Football Whisper takes a look at Glasner’s latest odds on him becoming the next Premier League manager to be sacked.

Who is Oliver Glasner?

Oliver Glasner is a 52-year-old Austrian head coach who built his managerial reputation in his homeland and Germany before making the move to English football.

He cut his teeth at Ried and LASK, where he developed a clear attacking identity, before spells at Wolfsburg and Eintracht Frankfurt established him as one of Europe’s more sought-after coaches.

He joined Crystal Palace in February 2024, taking over a side fighting against relegation and steering them to safety almost immediately.

Over his two years at Selhurst Park, Glasner transformed Palace into one of the Premier League’s tactically disciplined sides.

Glasner announced his decision to leave Palace at the end of last season, and after a summer of speculation, he joined Nottingham Forest after a personal approach from Marinakis.

The Austrian signed a three-year contract with Forest in July 2026, with his contract running until June 2029, becoming the highest-paid manager in the club's history.

He was appointed after Vitor Pereira’s surprise dismissal, becoming the Greek owner’s latest appointment in a dugout that has seen constant change.

Glasner’s managerial career is built on a track record of silverware that few of his Premier League peers can match.

His standout achievement came in 2022, when he led Eintracht Frankfurt to Europa League glory, beating Rangers on penalties in the final to deliver the club’s first European trophy in over four decades.

That success made him one of the most in-demand coaches in Europe and set the stage for his move to Crystal Palace two years later.

At Selhurst Park, Glasner delivered a trophy haul that transformed the club’s modern history. He won the FA Cup in 2024-25, Palace’s first-ever major trophy in their history, beating Manchester City in the final.

He followed that up by winning the Community Shield before guiding Palace to Conference League success, adding a third major trophy to his Selhurst Park reign in little more than a year.

Across his time in South London, Glasner won 36 of his 51 games in charge, but he has struggled to hit the ground running at the City ground.

Reason for a possible sacking for Glasner

The core issue at Forest is simply result-based, as Oliver Glasner has won just once in his opening seven games, losing four and drawing two in the EPL this season.

His start at Forest has been rocky, having collected just five points from their opening seven Premier League matches, as pressure builds heading into the November international break.

His side is currently without a goal at the City Ground in their first four home games and has lost three of their four home matches this season.

A third straight Premier League defeat, a narrow 1-0 loss to Arsenal, has left Forest sitting in 19th place in the relegation zone and piled further pressure on the Austrian.

The bigger complication is who he is working for, as Marinakis has overseen 11 permanent managerial appointments and three caretaker spells since taking charge of Forest in 2017.

Ange Postecoglou, one of the managers appointed, was sacked after just eight games without a win, and Glasner has now overseen the seven matches, with only a single victory to show for it.

His appointment was supposed to bring stability and a clear identity to a club that churned through four managers last season alone.

However, early signs suggest Glasner may not be immune to the same pressures that ended his predecessors’ reigns.

Odds for a Glasner sack

Bookmakers currently have Glasner priced at around 11/1 (12.00) on William Hill and 7/1 (8.00) on Ladbrokes to be the next Premier League manager sacked.

Those odds have shortened noticeably from where they opened the season, reflecting Forest’s poor results and the well-documented pattern of change under Marinakis.

He is not currently the outright favourite in the market, with Pierre Sage, his own successor at Crystal Palace, Michael Carrick and Alvaro Arbeloa also under scrutiny at their respective clubs.

But Oliver Glasner’s position stands out given how short a time he has been in the job, having overseen just seven EPL matches so far.

Marinakis’ pattern of giving managers roughly eight to ten games before making a change suggests Glasner’s sample size is rapidly running out.

For now, Forest’s upcoming fixtures and results will likely decide if he will still remain Forest manager or not.

Back-to-back defeats either side of the international break would make it difficult for Marinakis to resist his usual instincts, and Glasner’s odds would be expected to shorten sharply as a result.
