Home to win

Nigeria defeated Gabon in their last meeting.

The semi-final playoff of the 2026 FIFA World Cup will see African giants Nigeria battle for a ticket on Wednesday at the Prince Moulay El Hassan Stadium, Rabat.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria found a way to qualify for the playoffs after a disappointing start to their qualifying games. In their last five games, they have won four and drawn one, with the most recent being a 4-0 victory over Benin Republic, which secured their spot in the playoffs.

The Panthers, on the other hand, are also in good form, with four wins in their last five games after making it to the playoffs following their thrilling 2-0 home victory against Burundi last time out.

With both teams looking to make it to the biggest football competition in the world, they face a big challenge, as they both need a win to take them to the next stage of the qualifiers.

Nigeria preview: Just one key player missing

Nigeria boss Chelle has a near full-strength squad at his disposal, with the in-form Victor Osimhen leading the attack. Semi Ajay could miss the game after picking up a yellow card in the win over Benin Republic.

Ademola Lookman returns from suspension and is expected to line up alongside Osimhen and Moses Simon in attack, while Wilfred Ndidi and Alex Iwobi will be in midfield. The only absentee is full-back Ola Aina, who remains sidelined as he recovers from surgery on an injury sustained against South Africa.

Victor Osimhen has been the Super Eagles' most important player in their last qualifying games and his influence has helped them make the World Cup playoffs. The Nigerian international scored a hat-trick in his last outing against Benin.

This season, he has scored nine goals and provided one assist in all competitions for both club and country, with his presence very important for Nigeria. He will be looking to help Chelle push for a World Cup ticket and also get his name on the scoresheet.
