🔥 Our Hot tip

Under 2.5 total goals

Both teams have scored just six goals each in their last five games.

Newcastle return to Premier League action this weekend after crashing out of the Carabao Cup in midweek in a bit of a whimper. Indeed, they lost 3-1 to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium in the second leg of their semi-final clash, losing 5-1 overall on aggregate and therefore resigning their crown.

In the league, the Magpies were also thrashed 4-1 at Anfield by Liverpool last weekend, and so are desperate for a positive result here. Meanwhile, Brentford got an impressive 1-0 victory at Aston Villa last time out, despite being reduced to 10 men, and so could fancy their chances at St. James' Park on Saturday evening.

Newcastle vs Brentford prediction: Magpies to miss out on victory again?

Key stats

  • Newcastle are winless in four games in all competitions, losing three.
  • Brentford have won four of their last five away matches across all competitions.
  • The previous five H2Hs have seen both teams score.

Correct score prediction: Newcastle 1-1 Brentford

Newcastle are really struggling for form at the moment, while Brentford have been excellent away from home of late. While St. James' Park is usually a fortress for the Magpies, they are lacking confidence, which could let the Bees in.

Pre-game odds and win probability: Newcastle favourites with bookmakers

  • HOME: 1/1 (2.00) – 50.0%
  • DRAW: 13/5 (3.60) – 27.8%
  • AWAY: 12/5 (3.40) – 29.4%

*odds from Ladbrokes, subject to change

As shown by the implied probabilities, Newcastle have been installed as the favourites with bookmakers to claim all three points on home soil. Interestingly, both a draw and a Brentford win are separated by just 1.6%.

Most recent H2Hs: Plenty of goals

As mentioned before, the last five meetings between the two sides have seen both teams score. However, both teams have not exactly been among the goals recently, so it is tough to predict just how this game could go.

Newcastle preview: Gordon injury blow

Anthony Gordon came off against City with a hamstring injury, and so will be ruled out for a significant period of time. Bruno Guimaraes also remains a doubt.

Last five results:

  • Manchester City 3-1 Newcastle
  • Liverpool 4-1 Newcastle
  • PSG 1-1 Newcastle
  • Newcastle 0-2 Aston Villa
  • Newcastle 3-0 PSV

Brentford preview: Schade suspended

Kevin Schade is suspended after getting sent off against Villa. However, Brentford have reported no fresh injury concerns in the squad.

Predicted lineup: Kelleher (GK); Kayode, Ajer, van den Berg, Henry; Henderson, Janelt; Ouattara, Jensen, Damsgaard & Thiago

Last five results:

  • Aston Villa 0-1 Brentford
  • Brentford 0-2 Nottingham Forest
  • Chelsea 2-0 Brentford
  • Sheffield Wednesday 0-2 Brentford

Player to watch: Dango Ouattara

Dango Ouattara scored a brilliant goal to give 10-man Brentford all three points against Villa, and so should come into this match full of confidence. It was the winger's first goal since November, and so he will be hungry for more against Newcastle.
