Having ended the Premier League season in 12th, their lowest finish since 2019/20, Newcastle have endured a difficult summer.
Key players Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes have all left albeit for big fees, while Eddie Howe also left his position.
Matthias Jaissle has replaced him having done well in Austria and Saudi Arabia, but English football is a whole different animal to try and battle.
Fabian Schar, Lewis Miley and Tino Livramento are all injured too, so it will be interesting to see what team Newcastle field, especially given they play Leverkusen just a day before.
Strasbourg's pre-season has been pretty miserable with six straight losses, leaving Hugo Oliveira with a lot to fix ahead of the new campaign.
Having missed out on European football after finishing eighth in Ligue 1, Le Racing have lost some key players including Valentin Barco and Emmanuel Emegha, both joining sister club Chelsea.
Strasbourg's aspirations will be to qualify for Europe like they have done in the past, but competition is fierce in France aside from the dominant Paris Saint-Germain.
Star striker Joaquin Panichelli continues to be sidelined with an ACL injury, while Julio Enciso or Abdoul Ouattara are unlikely to feature as they close in on moves to Ipswich Town.

While odds are currently unavailable, we expect Newcastle to be installed as the favourites on home soil.
In terms of potential bets, BTTS – No could be worth exploring given Strasbourg have drawn blanks in four of their six friendlies.
Under 2.5 goals could also come through with three of those friendlies producing two or fewer goals.
Three of Strasbourg's defeats were by a 2-0 scoreline, so Correct score – 2-0 could also be an outside punt.
