Newcastle's season cannot be described as positive, but a win on Monday would lift them into seventh place, and that should be seen as a step in the right direction.

Manager Matthias Jaissle not only had to deal with the loss of key stars Sandro Tonali, Anthony Gordon and Bruno Guimaraes in the summer, but he also had a limited pre-season with the squad given he was only appointed in August.

A win at St James' Park would be the Magpies' second in a row in the top flight following their 2-0 success against Crystal Palace on October 25, while it would also be their third victory in five in the league.

Toon striker William Osula twisted his ankle in the EFL Cup tie between the two clubs on Thursday, and if he is unavailable, perhaps Yoane Wissa will be used up front.

Everton's win against Newcastle on Thursday could be one of their most important wins in their modern history given they progressed into the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup, with the club set to face Fleetwood Town for a place in the semi-finals.

David Moyes will be desperate for the club to help the team claim their first trophy in 31 years, though it would also be understandable if fans were concerned about their place in the Premier League.

The Toffees are only three points above the relegation zone, and the fact the team have taken just one point from the last nine on offer has alarmed some observers.

Jack Grealish has dominated headlines for being left out of Thursday's squad for disciplinary reasons, and there is no guarantee that he will make the squad on Monday.

Whispers predicts: Newcastle United 2-2 Everton

While the hosts are backed by the bookmakers at 27/20 (2.35), there could be value in predicting a draw at 5/2 (3.5).

Considering Everton have conceded first in each of their past three league games, it may make sense to start with a bet of Newcastle to Score First at 5/6 (1.83).

Given Newcastle have scored at least two goals in four of their five home games this season, a prediction of Over 1.5 Goals for Newcastle at 1/1 (2) could be the way to go.

Newcastle winger Harvey Barnes has scored four goals in his last 10 games for the club, so perhaps backing Harvey Barnes to Score at 12/5 (3.4) would be sensible.

📈 Newcastle United vs Everton — Whispers' Tips

> Newcastle to Score First at 5/6 (1.83) | Likelihood: Probable

> Over 1.5 Goals for Newcastle at 1/1 (2) | Likelihood: Possible

> Harvey Barnes to Score at 12/5 (3.4) | Likelihood: Outsider
