It's been an incredible couple of months for Brighton, who are now in pole position to finish sixth and qualify for next season's Europa League.

The Seagulls have picked up 19 points from the last 24 available, with their only loss since February coming against league leaders Arsenal.

What makes the run even more impressive is that it has come on the back of pressure being applied to manager Fabian Hurzeler and his status at the club. Now, there is next to no chance that Brighton part ways with the young German in the summer and instead, he may be entitled to an improved contract.

If Hurzeler can lead Brighton into the Europa League, then he will become just the second manager in the club's history to do so after Roberto de Zerbi managed the feat in 2022/23.

For the trip up to Newcastle this weekend, Hurzeler will be without Adam Webster, Diego Gomez and Stefanos Tzimas, while there are also doubts over the availability of James Milner.

As for Newcastle, their form could not be more at odds with what Brighton are currently producing.

Since being dumped out of the Champions League in humiliating circumstances in the middle of March, the Magpies have effectively shut down. Zero wins in the four matches following the 7-2 loss to Barcelona suggests there is a major mentality issue in Eddie Howe's squad.

Howe himself must be worried about his own future this summer. This is now twice that Newcastle have performed poorly when juggling European football, so there are questions marks around the Englishman's ability to manage a squad in multiple competitions.

One thing that he may point to is the fact that each of their last seven league losses have been by just one goal, so perhaps there is an element of misfortune at play.

For the match against Brighton, Joelinton could return to the starting XI after serving a suspension, but Fabian Schar, Tino Livramento and Emil Krath have all been ruled out due to injury.
