Netherlands to score Under 1.5 Goals

Ecuador have only conceded three goals in their past 10 matches

With the 2026 World Cup fast approaching, the Netherlands and Ecuador will be finalising their plans for this summer's tournament, so Tuesday's friendly clash at the former's Philips Stadion will be key for the nations' respective head coaches.

Following their 2-1 triumph against Norway on Friday, Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman only has two more games scheduled before his side travel to North America, whereas Ecuador's stalemate with Morocco on the same day was their penultimate match before the start of the World Cup in June.

Netherlands boss Koeman will hope that his side can improve upon their quarter-final placements at the 2022 World Cup and the 2024-25 Nations League, though the Dutch did reach the semi-finals of Euro 2024.

The head coach has reportedly identified set pieces as a key area to target this summer, and considering the aerial prowess of players like Virgil van Dijk, it would not be surprising if his team were particularly dangerous from dead-ball situations.

🔍 Whispers Insight

17 of the Netherlands' last 24 shots have come from inside the box.

Oranje come into Tuesday's clash undefeated in their last nine fixtures, and a win against the visitors would be their eighth in 10 matches, as well as their fifth in six home games.

While the nation are in excellent form, their squad is not at full strength, with attacker Memphis Depay currently sidelined, while Arsenal's Jurrien Timber withdrew from international duty last week.

Sunderland striker Brian Brobbey was named in the squad in place of Depay, making an appearance against Norway, while Sunderland's Lutsharel Geertruida replaced Timber.

Ecuador would be within their rights to claim that they have the best defence in international football, with Moises Caicedo patrolling midfield ahead of defenders such as Willian Pacho, Joel Ordonez and Piero Hincapie.

🔍 Whispers Insight

Ecuador have faced an average of two shots on target in their last three games.

Unfortunately for the away side, Arsenal's Hincapie pulled up during a sprint against Morocco, and he has since been sent back to the Emirates to undergo further medical assessments.

Nevertheless, La Seleccion are sure to be challenging opponents considering they are unbeaten in 16 games, though they were held to 10 stalemates in that stretch.

Ecuador boss Sebastian Beccacece will be hoping to guide his side to their first ever win against the Netherlands, with the nation having drawn two and lost one of their three meetings with the Dutch.

Whispers predicts: Netherlands 1-1 Ecuador

While the Netherlands have been excellent in front of goal, their opponents have rarely tasted defeat, and a draw on Tuesday - priced at 3.6 - could be an inspired prediction.

Considering Ecuador have been so strong defensively and have proven resilient at the back, it seems sensible to predict Netherlands to Score Under 1.5 Goals, priced at 2.

However, the visitors have not been particularly productive in the final third, so it would be a safe bet to predict Ecuador to Score Under 1.5 Goals, with that priced at 1.22.

Should both teams cancel each other out, then the game on Tuesday might not be the most thrilling affair, and a likely outcome is Under 2.5 Goals across the 90 minutes.
