Home (First-half win)

The first-half of their last five meetings has been won by Napoli.

Last season league winners Napoli will welcome Sassuolo to the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona in Serie A on Saturday, with the home team looking to return to winning ways after a minor stumble in their last outing.

Napoli return to Serie A action with little time to dwell on a goalless draw against Parma in midweek, a result that extended an unconvincing run of three straight league draws.

Those dropped points have allowed Inter Milan to open up a six-point cushion at the summit, increasing the pressure on the Partenopei.

A congested fixture schedule has clearly tested their depth, but a switch back to home surroundings could be the spark they need, especially given their outstanding record at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, where they have avoided defeat in 20 consecutive league matches.

Sassuolo, meanwhile, come into the game with more recovery time after sitting out midweek action, yet their recent form offers limited encouragement.

They have gone six Serie A matches without a win, collecting three draws and three losses, and have failed to find the net in back-to-back defeats against Roma and Juventus.

Although head coach Fabio Grosso has acknowledged the current period as challenging, the newly promoted side remain safely placed in mid-table for now. That sense of comfort could soon fade, however, if Sassuolo cannot arrest a four-game winless streak away from home.

Napoli vs Sassuolo prediction: Home team expected to win

Key statistics

  • BTTS has not been played in four of their last five meetings.
  • Napoli have won the first-half of their last five meetings with Sassuolo.
  • The Partenopei have won their last five clashes against Sassuolo.

Correct score prediction: Napoli 2-0 Sassuolo

Looking at the form of both teams, we expect the home team to secure a convincing win. We predict a 2-0 victory for Napoli based on their dominant form and how good their home form has been this season.

The Partenopei have enjoyed playing against the Neroverdi at the Maradona, often scoring multiple goals in this fixture. Given that Sassuolo have conceded five goals in their last two matches, we believe Napoli’s attacking quality will overwhelm the visitors.

Pre-match odds and win probability: Napoli strong home favourites

  • Home: 10/21 (1.48) – 67.6%
  • Draw: 10/3 (4.33) – 23.1%
  • Away: 11/2 (6.50) – 15.4%

The bookmakers clearly side with Napoli for a win, pricing them at 1.48, which implies a 67.6% chance of a home win. Sassuolo are outsiders at 6.50 (15.4%), reflecting the difficulty of getting a result away from home, while the draw at 4.33 (23.1%) suggests Napoli are expected to dominate but may need to be patient to break their opponents down.

Most recent head-to-head: Complete dominance for the host

Looking at their previous records, the meetings between these two clubs show that Napoli have won all five encounters, often by significant margins. The most recent clash ended in a 2-0 away victory for Napoli in August 2025, continuing a trend that saw them win 6-1 and 4-0 in previous seasons.

This one-sided record suggests that Sassuolo struggle to cope with Napoli's intensity, and the host will be confident of extending their winning streak against their opponent.

Napoli preview: Squad rotation and absentees

Antonio Conte is expected to make adjustments. David Neres made a brief return as a second-half substitute before being withdrawn again, and his fitness will be assessed ahead of this fixture, leaving his availability uncertain.

There is a boost in defence, however, as Juan Jesus returns after serving a one-match suspension. Napoli are still stretched in other areas, with midfield trio Kevin De Bruyne, Frank Anguissa and Billy Gilmour all unavailable, while Alex Meret and Romelu Lukaku also remain sidelined.

Predicted lineup: Milinkovic-Savic (GK), Beukema, Rrahmani, Juan Jesus, Di Lorenzo, Lobotka, McTominay, Spinazzola, Politano, Elmas & Hojlund

Last five fixtures

  • 14.01.26 – Napoli 0–0 Parma
  • 11.01.26 – Inter 2–2 Napoli
  • 07.01.26 – Napoli 2–2 Verona
  • 04.01.26 – Lazio 0–2 Napoli
  • 28.12.25 – Cremonese 0–2 Napoli

Sassuolo preview: Lengthy injury list

Sassuolo head into this fixture with a growing list of absentees. Fali Cande is the latest addition after suffering a torn cruciate ligament, further stretching Fabio Grosso’s options.

He joins an injury list that already includes Kristian Thorstvedt and key attacker Domenico Berardi, leaving the Neroverdi without some of their most influential players.

There is some positive news, however, as Woyo Coulibaly has returned from Africa Cup of Nations duty, while Filippo Romagna is nearing a return to full training.

Predicted lineup: Muric (GK), Walukiewicz, Idzes, Muharemovic, Doig, Lipani, Matic, Kone, Fadera, Pinamonti & Lauriente

Last five fixtures

  • 10.01.26 – AS Roma 2–0 Sassuolo
  • 06.01.26 – Sassuolo 0–3 Juventus
  • 03.01.26 – Sassuolo 1–1 Parma
  • 28.12.25 – Bologna 1–1 Sassuolo
  • 21.12.25 – Sassuolo 0–1 Torino

Player to watch: Rasmus Hojlund

Rasmus Hojlund has been Napoli’s main attacking outlet this season and sits at the top of their scoring charts. With six league goals and two assists to his name, he has been central to most of their best moments going forward.

His sharp movement and awareness around the box regularly cause problems for defenders, making him the player Sassuolo will be most concerned about. If Napoli manage to score, Hojlund is likely to be at the heart of it.
