NAC Breda vs AZ Alkmaar prediction: Both near and far

Key facts

  • Despite being only one place above NAC in the table, AZ have scored 11 more goals and conceded seven fewer.
  • Both sides have two wins and a draw in their last three.
  • There have been no draws in the previous 11 meetings between the pair.
  • NAC have won five of seven home games, AZ have won four of seven away games.

Correct score prediction: NAC Breda 1-2 AZ Alkmaar

Despite being near in the table, the two sides are clearly quite far apart in performance levels. That much is to be expected, given this is NAC's first season back in the Eredivisie since 2018/19.

As such, we think AZ Alkmaar will edge this one.

DRAW: 13/5 (3.60) – 27.8%

NAC Breda preview: An astonishing return

Given they finished just eighth in the Eerste Divisie last season and sneaked up through the playoffs, NAC fans would have been delighted if you'd told them they'd be seventh in the top flight heading towards Christmas.

NAC's comfortable wins over struggling Sparta Rotterdam and Almere City have put them in a very comfortable position, and it would be a shock to see them dragged into a relegation scrap now.

Predicted lineup: Bielica (GK), Lucassen, Greiml, van de Bergh, Kemper, Jensen, Balard, Paula, Leemans, Sauer, Omarsson

AZ Alkmaar preview: Away day warriors

Despite beating Ajax in Alkmaar last weekend in a surprise 2-1 win, AZ have still been better on their travels this season, having won as many points on the road as at home, despite having played one fewer away than at home.

After a bumpy October, AZ have found their groove again, with three league wins on the spin. NAC will make life difficult, but we expect De Kaasboeren to make it four.

Predicted lineup: Zoet (GK), Maikuma, Goes, Penetra, Moller-Wolfe, Clasie, Mijnans, Koopmeiners, Poku, Parrott, van Bommel

Player to watch: Troy Parrott

Republic of Ireland international Troy Parrott continued his conquest of the Eredivisie last weekend with an opening goal against heavyweights Ajax.

That goal made it nine for the season, but we expect him to make it ten this Sunday.
