Montreal vs Chicago Fire predictions: Both teams to find the net

Key stats

  • Six of Montreal's last seven matches produced goals at both ends.
  • Both teams were on the scoresheet in each of Chicago Fire’s last five games.
  • There were at least 10 corners in three of Montreal's last four clashes with Chicago Fire.

Correct score prediction: Montreal 1-1 Chicago Fire

Montreal and Chicago Fire are both on a four-match winless streak across all competitions, respectively.

Interestingly, Montreal have been the worst home team in the Eastern Conference, with only one win in 10 league matches at Saputo Stadium (D3, L6).

While Chicago Fire have fared better than their hosts, their recent form does not inspire much confidence, as Gregg Berhalter’s troops suffered five defeats in their last seven games in all competitions (W1, L1).

Given that the reverse fixture ended in a stalemate, we believe that both teams' respective winless streaks will continue with a draw.

Pre-game odds and win probability: Chicago Fire are expected winners

  • HOME: 13/8 (2.63) – 38.1%
  • DRAW: 12/5 (3.40) – 29.4%
  • AWAY: 5/4 (2.25) – 44.4%

Montreal preview: No new absentees

Montreal continued their slump in form as they picked up their fifth defeat in their last nine games, this time against conference leaders Philadelphia Union, to remain rooted at the bottom of the Eastern Conference table.

Going into this weekend's game, the hosts ended their clash at Philadelphia with no new injuries, but Jalen Neal and Giacomo Vrioni remain doubtful as both players missed action once more last time out.

It is expected that coach Donadel will keep faith in the 4-2-3-1 setup from last time, which paraded Prince-Osei Owusu up top. The German forward has scored eight goals in his last seven games.

Predicted lineup: Breza (GK), Petrasso, Craig, Waterman, Bugaj, Sealy, Loturi, Piette, Pearce, Owusu & Clark.

Chicago Fire preview: Hoping to get back on course

Second half substitute William Reilly scored a 90+4th-minute equaliser for Atlanta United last time out to deny Chicago Fire what could have been their first win in four games, as the contest ended 2-2.

Coach Berhalter is under pressure at the moment as his side have only one win in their last seven matches, with five of those encounters ending in defeats.

Attacking midfielder David Poreba has torn ligaments. Centre-back Carlos Teran continues to nurse a hamstring injury, while forward Chris Mueller, who hasn't played at all this season, remains out due to undisclosed personal reasons.

Predicted lineup: Brady (GK), Dean, Rogers, Elliot, Gutman, Gutierrez, Pineda, Oregel, Bamba, Cuypers & Zinckernagel.
