With their opening game in the World Cup only three weeks away, Mexico have lined up preparatory friendlies against Ghana, Australia, and Serbia. Javier Aguirre's side are co-hosts, and unlike most teams, did not have to go through the qualifying rounds.

While El Tri are currently on a five-match unbeaten run, it is worth mentioning that they have not played a competitive game since their CONCACAF Gold Cup triumph in July last year.

In a bid to ramp up preparations for the mundial, head coach Aguirre named a 20-man squad for this friendly.

Although the hosts have not released a final squad for the World Cup proper, this friendly roster blends experience and emerging talents who could steal spots in the final squad for the competition.

Unlike their opponents, Ghana's recent run of results does not inspire much confidence. They have lost four in a row, scoring only twice in that stretch.

On the positive side, all four defeats were in friendlies, and the visitors have won their last three competitive games without conceding a single goal.

However, the Black Stars have a poor track record against Mexico, as they have suffered four defeats in as many clashes between these sides. Their most recent loss against the CONCACAF Gold Cup champions came in October 2023.

Looking to start strongly against Panama in their FIFA World Cup opener, head coach Carlos Queiroz named a 23-man squad for the friendly against Mexico. The roster features a mixture of European-based stars, six domestic players, and U23 prospects.

Whispers Predicts: Mexico 2-0 Ghana

At 1.58, Mexico are considered favourites by the bookmakers.

The hosts have a perfect record against Ghana, and considering the Black Stars’ losing streak, we are confident that Mexico will emerge victorious after 90 minutes.

It is also worth mentioning that Ghana failed to score in three of four previous encounters between these sides.

On that note, we fancy Mexico to win-to-nil at 2.60.
