🔥 Our Hot tip

Under 3.5 total goals

Five of the last six H2Hs have seen less than three goals scored.

Metz host Angers at the Stade Saint-Symphorien on Sunday for a Ligue 1 meeting between two teams still searching for early-season rhythm.

The home side need a lift and will look to feed off their own crowd after a flat start, while Angers arrive aiming to stretch a run of solid, if careful, performances.

Metz vs Angers prediction: Metz to record first league win

Key Statistics

  • Metz have lost their last seven Ligue 1 matches, conceding seven goals in the process.
  • Metz average only 0.67 goals per game in the league this season.
  • Angers are unbeaten in 5 of their last 6 Ligue 1 meetings with Metz.
  • All of Angers’ last four Ligue 1 matches have featured under 2.5 goals.

Correct Score Prediction: Metz 1-0 Angers

Metz may not look convincing, but their energy at home and Angers’ lack of cutting edge suggest this could finally be the fixture where Metz break their winless streak. A narrow 1-0 feels the most likely scoreline.

Odds and Win Probability – Metz favoured at home

  • Home Win: 1.91 (50.4%)
  • Draw: 4.20 (22.9%)
  • Away Win: 3.60 (26.7%)

Odds via Ladbrokes, subject to change.

Bookmakers give Metz a slight edge, valuing their win chance above 50%. Angers, at just under 27%, are seen as capable but still outsiders. The high draw odds reflect the expectation of a scrappy, cagey contest.

Recent meetings – A one-sided rivalry

Angers have dominated this fixture in recent years, winning four of the last six Ligue 1 meetings with Metz. The head-to-head history shows Metz often struggle to break down Angers’ compact defensive shape.

Metz preview – Looking for liftoff

Metz have lurched through a patchy run, winning just two of their last six, alongside a draw and three defeats.

Goals have been the main issue. They average only 0.83 per game, while the defence has leaked 1.5. The last five outings tell the same story: one win, three straight losses and an alarming 2.33 goals conceded on average in those defeats.

Possession isn’t the problem. They hold the ball around 51% of the time, but the spark up front remains faint.

Look further back and a different side appears. Metz have won 55% of their past 20 home league matches, scoring close to two goals a game and letting in fewer than one. They’ve avoided defeat in 18 of those, which shows how hard they usually are to beat in front of their own fans.

Still, recent form cuts against that. They’re winless in seven of their last 10 in all competitions and have drawn half of their last six at home. Converting control into victories is the hurdle they need to clear to feel like a steady Ligue 1 force again.

Metz remain without injured duo Joel Asoro and Fode Ballo-Toure, and coach Stephane Le Mignan is set to stick with his usual 4-2-3-1 setup.

Idrissa Gueye stays central to their attacking moves, while Benjamin Stambouli and Boubacar Traore are again expected to shoulder most of the midfield workload.

Predicted lineup: Fischer (GK); Kouao, Sane, Gbamin, Toure; Tsitaishvili, Traore, Stambouli, Abuashvili; Gueye & Hein

Last five games:

  • 31/08/2025: Paris FC 3-2 Metz (Ligue 1)
  • 23/08/2025: Lyon 3-0 Metz (Ligue 1)
  • 17/08/2025: Metz 0-1 Strasbourg (Ligue 1)
  • 09/08/2025: Hoffenheim 8-0 Metz (Friendly)
  • 03/08/2025: Troyes 0-1 Metz (Friendly)

Angers preview – Avoiding second-season syndrome

Alexandre Dujeux’s side arrive in slightly better spirits, with three wins, a draw and two defeats from their last six, hinting at a team starting to take shape.

They match Metz’s modest 0.83 goals per game but are far more dependable at the back, conceding at the same rate – a sign of solid organisation.

The attack is less convincing. Angers average only 2.5 shots on target, and their away record underlines the issue. They’ve lost nearly half of their last 22 trips in all competitions and have gone six of the last seven without a win.

That stretch includes just 0.33 goals per match over their last three away games, each time conceding at least once. Until they can carry that home discipline onto the road, progress will stay limited.

Their overall scoring rate away from home sits at 0.86 per game, hardly enough to trouble hosts with a firm base like Metz.

Angers could welcome back Yassin Belkhdim after his suspension in the 1-1 draw with Rennes.

Louis Mouton also featured in that game but picked up a fresh knock and is a doubt for this trip. Coach Dujeux is still expected to keep faith with his preferred 4-2-3-1 to maintain balance.

Predicted XI: Koffi (GK); Arcus, Camara, Lefort, Raolisoa; Capelle, Courcoul, Belkebla, Allevinah; Labeau & Cherif

Last five games:

  • 31/08/2025: Angers 1-1 Rennes (Ligue 1)
  • 22/08/2025: PSG 1-0 Angers (Ligue 1)
  • 17/08/2025: Angers 1-0 Paris FC (Ligue 1)
  • 09/08/2025: Angers 1-0 Lorient (Friendly)
  • 03/08/2025: Angers 2-0 Saumur (Friendly)

Player to watch – Georges Mikautadze

Mikautadze remains Metz’s biggest attacking weapon. His ability to drop deep, link midfield to attack, and test goalkeepers from range gives Metz hope of unlocking Angers’ well-drilled defence.

If Metz are to finally record their first win of the campaign, Mikautadze will likely be at the heart of it.
