Mansfield to win

Blackpool currently have the division's worst defensive record, and Mansfield will be aiming to exploit that, although they have also had their issues at the back. We are backing the home side to secure maximum points come the end of the 90 minutes, albeit by only a narrow margin

Fresh from picking up their first league wins of the season in their respective last outings, Mansfield and Blackpool will both be looking to pick up consecutive victories when they lock horns at the One Call Stadium on Tuesday.

Here at Football Whispers, we will be previewing what promises to be an exciting matchup in this Mansfield vs Blackpool prediction article.

Mansfield vs Blackpool prediction: Mansfield to continue winning run

Key stats

  • Blackpool are without a clean sheet in five straight matches since playing out a goalless stalemate against Salford in their penultimate pre-season encounter.
  • However, four of those matches have also seen them find the back of the net a combined seven times, highlighting their strength at the top end of the pitch.
  • Like Blackpool, Mansfield have also been shaky at the back of late, with only one clean sheet recorded from their last eight appearances.
  • Games involving Tuesday's hosts have yielded four bookings or fewer on all but one of the most recent nine occasions.

Correct score prediction: Mansfield 2-1 Blackpool

Pre-game odds and win probability: Little to choose between the sides

  • HOME: 13/10 (2.30) – 43.5%
  • DRAW: 23/10 (3.30) – 30.3%
  • AWAY: 8/5 (2.60) – 38.5%

With only a 5% difference between the win probabilities of the two teams, there is a strong indication that Tuesday's encounter could swing either way.

Following up on their 2-0 EFL Cup triumph over Chesterfield, Mansfield claimed a hard-fought 2-1 win over Exeter City in Saturday's meeting.

Goals from Frazer Blake-Tracy and Josh Magennis left the level at 1-1 heading into the final five minutes of normal time, during which Will Evans grabbed the winner.

Blackpool, meanwhile, also edged their last outing by the odd goal courtesy of a 3-2 victory over Huddersfield Town.

After going behind inside four minutes, Steve Bruce's men scored three unanswered goals through Niall Ennis (two) and Lee Evans to take control of proceedings, before Lynden Gooch pulled one back.

Mansfield preview: Rhys Oates set for second straight game out

Oates marked his return to the starting lineup for Mansfield against Chesterfield with a second-minute goal, but had to be hauled just over half an hour later through injury.

As a result, he was absent from his side's trip to Exeter and is also sidelined for Tuesday's clash alongside Joe Gardner (ankle), Lee Gregory (knee) and Adedeji Oshilaja (groin).

Predicted lineup: Roberts (GK), Cargill, Bowery, Knoyle, Blake-Tracy, Hendry, McDonnell, Reed, Bolton, Maris & Evans

Blackpool preview: New source of attacking firepower needed in Niall Ennis' absence

After scoring twice within the opening 30 minutes of Blackpool's game against Huddersfield, Ennis would have been dreaming of a hat-trick, but received his marching orders just under 10 minutes shy of the half-time whistle.

The 26-year-old has scored three of his side's six goals this term, although he will not be able to add to that tally on Tuesday as he serves a suspension.

Fraser Horsfall is also unavailable for the visitors due to an ankle issue, while James Husband and Daniel Imray miss out through hamstring and knee problems respectively.

Predicted lineup: Peacock-Farrell (GK), Coulson, Ihiekwe, Casey, Brown, Hansson, Honeyman, Evans, Hamilton, Bloxham & Fletcher

Player to watch – Will Evans

Having racked up 39 goals across all competitions over the last two seasons, Evans has proven himself to be a reliable goalscorer.

He endured a frustrating outing in Mansfield's opening two matches of the current campaign but has since found the back of the net in consecutive matches.

Evans scored three times in two meetings against Blackpool last time out, and you would not bet against him getting on the scoresheet for a third straight edition of this fixture.
