The summer window has already closed in Europe, but Manchester United remain attentive to the transfer market and secured another signing this Thursday. And it involves a young South American talent: Cristian Orozco, Colombian midfielder from Fortaleza CEIF.

According to Fabrizio Romano, journalist specialising in football transfers, the deal was agreed for 1 million dollars (£727,000 at the current exchange rate), a value seen as accessible by the Red Devils, who believe in Orozco's great potential for evolution and development.

Due to his age – 17 years old – the player cannot yet join the Manchester club. This will only happen in July 2026, when Orozco turns 18.

Who is Cristian Orozco?

Cristian Orozco stands out as a defensive midfielder with sharp reading and quick decision-making. His capacity for anticipation, combined with good positioning and refined play with the first touch, make him a player capable of accelerating moves and granting fluidity to midfield. Despite his young age, he already demonstrates maturity to identify spaces, predict opponent movements and transform ball recovery into offensive progression.

Beyond technique, Orozco presents personality on the pitch. He is seen as a natural leader, as well explained by Campo Elias Santacruz, the midfielder's coach when he played in the youth categories at Rojo FC.

“With his character and style of play, Orozco established himself in the under-15 and under-17 teams. Despite being so young, he always demonstrated leadership in training,” said Elias Santacruz in an interview with British portal Sport Witness.

Alvaro Escobar, former Colombian defender and Orozco's coach in the youth national teams, is another to highlight the player's personality. For him, the leadership capacity is one of the points that most draw attention about United's new signing.

“Orozco has a positive leadership style that allowed him to be captain of the Colombian national team. He expresses himself well and is receptive. He does not get irritated when corrected. It is a pleasure to coach him. I was very happy when I discovered he could go to Manchester United.”

Runner-up at this year's South American Under-17 Championship, Orozco is considered one of the most promising athletes in Colombian football at present. Even though already agreed with Manchester United, he has not yet made his professional debut for Fortaleza CEIF.

What is Manchester United's plan for Orozco?

Ruben Amorim's Manchester United strategy consists of initially inserting Orozco into the youth categories, then projecting his transition to the main team. The club are working with a comfortable time margin, since under-21 is the final stage before professionalism in Europe.

The Colombian is the second South American talent recently recruited by the club. In July, the English side invested 4 million euros (£3.4m) in Paraguayan Diego Leon, a left-back trained at Cerro Porteno – who today has been playing for the Red Devils' B team.
