Close to a departure this summer, Kobbie Mainoo ultimately stayed at Manchester United. But used very little since the start of the season, the English midfielder has made his decision, on the eve of the winter transfer window.

Once regarded as the great talent from Manchester United's academy, Kobbie Mainoo has lost his starting place with Ruben Amorim's arrival. A demotion very badly taken by the English midfielder, who has only played 261 minutes since the start of the season. Despite a weakened midfield, the Portuguese manager is demonstrating that he does not count on the 20-year-old player.

A starter with England at Euro 2024, Kobbie Mainoo assuredly has the ambition to be present in Thomas Tuchel's squad to participate in the 2026 World Cup but to be called up, he needs playing time and to be performing, at a competitive club. According to information from The Athletic, Kobbie Mainoo has therefore decided to leave on loan during the winter transfer window.

Kobbie Mainoo wants loan move

This summer, several clubs made approaches for Kobbie Mainoo, notably Napoli and West Ham United. The Italian club seemed to have the edge and have the advantage of competing in the Champions League and being title candidates in Serie A. The England international (10 caps, no goals) has a very clear plan: regain his level on loan and reclaim his place at Manchester United.

But before thinking about Manchester United, Kobbie Mainoo first has the objective of becoming a regular player on the pitch again. Napoli reportedly remain interested and when one sees the level displayed by Scott McTominay since his arrival at the Partenopei, Kobbie Mainoo must certainly dream of imitating his predecessor. A six-month loan has a strong chance of being confirmed this winter.
