The transfer of young Argentine forward Alejandro Garnacho has caused a stir. Following a dispute with manager Ruben Amorim at Manchester United, Garnacho has joined London rivals Chelsea for a reported £40m. After signing, the 19-year-old forward expressed his excitement.
“This is an incredible moment for me and my family. I cannot wait to get started,” Garnacho said. “I watched the Club World Cup and joining the world champions is something special. We are the best team in the world! I have a winning mentality, passion and a big personality. That naturally fits a club that has just won the Club World Cup.”
Garnacho becomes Chelsea’s fifth new forward of the summer window, following the arrivals of Joao Pedro, Liam Delap, Estevao and Jamie Gittens.
Manchester United fail in pursuit of Malick Fofana
While Chelsea strengthened, Manchester United have struggled to find a replacement following Garnacho’s departure and Matheus Cunha’s injury. According to Foot Mercato, the Red Devils targeted Lyon star Malick Fofana. Agent Jorge Mendes reportedly facilitated contact between United and Fofana’s father. The English club were waiting for a signal to open negotiations, which never came. In addition to United, Fofana has been linked with other Premier League clubs including Everton, Nottingham Forest, Liverpool and Chelsea.

The 20-year-old Belgian enjoyed a solid 2024/25 season, scoring five goals and providing four assists in 29 Ligue 1 appearances. He also contributed six goals and one assist in ten Europa League matches. In the current campaign, he has already scored once and assisted once in three league appearances.
Manchester United prepare for derby against Manchester City
Manchester United will face city rivals Manchester City in the league this weekend. After three games, United have collected four points in the Premier League. They began the season with a home defeat to Arsenal, followed by a draw against Fulham, before narrowly defeating Burnley in their most recent match.
The Red Devils have also already exited the EFL Cup, losing on penalties to fourth-tier side Grimsby.
