Manchester City are reportedly prepared to break the world transfer record for a right-back by launching a big-money move for Newcastle United defender Tino Livramento this summer.

With the Premier League title race against Arsenal and a Champions League last-16 tie against Real Madrid still to come, Manchester City are set for a thrilling end to the 2025-26 season. But behind the scenes, the Citizens are already working on strengthening Pep Guardiola's squad ahead of the summer.

While the club have been linked with Real Madrid's Brazilian forward Vinicius, their primary focus is on recruiting a new right-back, a position occupied this season by Matheus Nunes and Rico Lewis and left somewhat thin following the departure of Kyle Walker. To that end, Manchester City are reportedly willing to make a major move for a player they have identified as their top target: Tino Livramento.

Livramento set to become Manchester City's new record signing?

The 23-year-old England defender is under contract with Newcastle until June 2028 but is likely to be tempted by a more ambitious challenge, having been at St James' Park since the summer of 2023. While the Magpies would like to extend his deal, Eddie Howe's side will struggle to ignore Manchester City's ambition to break the world record for a right-back, according to TeamTalk. That record is currently held by Morocco international Achraf Hakimi, who joined Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2021 for a fee of around £58m (€68m).

Should they decide to sell, Newcastle are looking to recoup around £70m for their number 21, approximately €80m. That figure does not appear to be putting off Manchester City, even though it represents double Livramento's current market value of €40m according to Transfermarkt.

If Manchester City do agree to pay such a fee, it would surpass the £55m (€65m) they spent on Joao Cancelo in the summer of 2019, who remains the most expensive right-back in the club's history.
