Manchester City news: Guardiola courted by former club amid mounting exit talk

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is reportedly attracting growing interest from a former club as speculation over his future continues to mount.

Guardiola has been at the helm of Manchester City since the summer of 2016 and is currently in his 10th season in charge of the Sky Blues. However, the end appears to be nearing for the Spanish tactician, who is expected to leave the English club either at the end of this season or when his contract expires in June 2027.

Growing interest from the Middle East for Guardiola

Fabrizio Romano has already revealed that Enzo Maresca is the clear favourite to succeed Guardiola at Manchester City. As such, the former Barcelona head coach's departure is looking increasingly likely, and the Sky Blues are beginning to prepare for life after him.

But where could the 55-year-old end up next? According to TeamTalk, “interest is growing in the Middle East” for the star manager. While Saudi Arabia's desire to lure Guardiola has been well documented for several months, Qatar would also like to secure a return for the former midfielder.

What next for the Manchester City boss?

As a player, Guardiola spent time at Al-Ahli in Doha between 2003 and 2005 during the twilight of his career. It is the Qatar-based club that has reportedly expressed concrete interest in the Spaniard. Like the Saudi Pro League, the Qatar Stars League is also expanding rapidly and has already attracted a high-profile manager in Roberto Mancini, who is currently in charge of Al Sadd.

For now, nothing has leaked regarding the future of the current Manchester City boss, who remains focused on the end of the season, with the English club still in contention for the Premier League title, the FA Cup, the EFL Cup and, of course, the Champions League.
