Manchester United and Chelsea are both monitoring a Premier League attacking midfielder valued at over £88m ahead of the summer transfer window.

Having established himself as an undisputed starter at Aston Villa since last season, Morgan Rogers is now widely regarded as one of the best attacking midfielders in the Premier League. The 23-year-old — who can also operate on either flank — has backed that up this term with eight goals and five assists in the league.

Rogers ‘very open' to United move

Inevitably, his name has already begun to circulate ahead of the summer window. According to Sky Sport, Manchester United have made contact with Aston Villa to explore the conditions of a potential transfer, with Rogers said to be “very open” to a move to Old Trafford.

However, the player is understood to be making any switch conditional on United securing Champions League football, a step up he is keen to make in his career. Currently third in the Premier League, the Red Devils are well positioned to return to Europe's elite competition. That qualification alone, however, would not guarantee success in landing Rogers.

Chelsea also in the running

According to the same source, Aston Villa value their attacking midfielder at around £90m and would not entertain offers below £79m. Beyond Villa's steep demands, United must also contend with Chelsea.

The Blues have already made enquiries with those in Rogers' camp and could make a formal move this summer. The saga looks set to be one of the defining storylines of the next transfer window. particularly if the versatile midfielder shines for England at the World Cup.
