Man United transfer news: Fresh suitor emerges for Bruno Fernandes

Bruno Fernandes has been one of the best players in Europe this season, something also confirmed by his bid to break the record for assists in a single campaign. While things are going well on the pitch, it is worth remembering the state of the Manchester United hierarchy, and the Portuguese star's continued presence at the club is by no means a given. Who is looking to take advantage?

There has not been a player as influential as Bruno Fernandes in this modern era of Manchester United. There has not been a player on whose performances the team have so heavily relied — and with whom they have just as often slumped.

And those slumps have not been few and far between. This season, particularly since the arrival of Michael Carrick, there is no doubt that the Portuguese star's continued presence at the club, even though the hierarchy were open to a sale, has been decisive for the outcome of the campaign. One only needs to look at Fernandes's statistics. He already has eight goals and 19 assists in the Premier League. The record held by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne for the most assists in a single season is even within his reach.

Fernandes has been fantastic and, in the eyes of many, he deserves the player-of-the-season trophy. However, while he has been delivering incredible performances — and Manchester United would not be where they are now without him — his future remains uncertain.

The fact that results are good, that the new signings have settled in, and so on, does not change the fact that the same hierarchy is still in charge, and the missteps these men have on their CVs. That includes the attempt to sell Fernandes to Saudi Arabia last summer.

There is therefore plenty of speculation that he could nevertheless leave Old Trafford at the end of the season. And such a player would simply be irreplaceable. Clubs are certainly all ears when his name comes up. They view him as expensive but not unattainable.

That is reportedly also how Galatasaray view him, a club that has already proven it can land players with big names. There is not a transfer window where someone of stature does not arrive at the Turkish club.

Fernandes would have the same impact as Wesley Sneijder did back in the day. Reportedly, contact has already taken place between the player and the side that is once again on course to win the Turkish league this season and that has also caught the eye in the Champions League.

Interest is said to have already existed last summer. At any rate, the Istanbul hierarchy are well aware of how difficult it would be to sign Bruno Fernandes after the season he is currently having. But it would be a sensational transfer bombshell.
