🔥 Our Hot tip

Phillip Tietz to score anytime

Tietz has scored six goals in three games so far this season and will be looking to add to his tally when Mainz return to action this weekend.

Mainz return to the MEWA Arena this weekend as they welcome Eintracht Frankfurt looking to maintain their unbeaten start to the 2026-27 Bundesliga season.

Led by Urs Fischer, the 05ers drew on the opening day of the league season before producing an emphatic 5-0 victory away to Hamburg last weekend, following a comprehensive 9-0 win over 1921 Krieschow in the DFB-Pokal at the end of August.

As for the visitors, Eintracht Frankfurt also cruised into the next round of the cup after thrashing SC St Tonis 11-0, but they have struggled to replicate that form in the Bundesliga, drawing 3-3 with Union Berlin before suffering a 4-1 home defeat to Augsburg last time out.

The 2025-26 campaign saw Mainz finish 10th in the Bundesliga table, with the 05ers never seriously threatening to drop into the relegation battle or challenge for a place in the European positions.

One of the reasons behind that mid-table finish was Mainz's poor home record, with a much-improved return on the road perhaps preventing Urs Fischer's side from slipping towards the bottom end of the standings.

Mainz vs. Eintracht Frankfurt – Whispers Insight

Urs Fischer joined Mainz in December 2025 and has won 14 of his 30 matches in charge.

From their 17 home matches, Mainz won just four and lost their final three games at the MEWA Arena, recording the fourth-worst home record in the division.

That poor home form was evident again on the opening day this season, when the 05ers were held to a goalless draw by newly promoted Paderborn despite going into the contest as favourites.

Fischer's side did, however, respond in emphatic fashion last weekend, with Mainz thrashing Hamburg 5-0 away from home.

Phillip Tietz was the standout performer in that victory, scoring twice to take his tally to six goals in just three matches after previously finding the net four times against 1921 Krieschow in the DFB-Pokal, leaving him just one goal short of matching his total from last season.

As for Eintracht Frankfurt, the Eagles travel to Mainz, the capital and largest city of the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate, still searching for their first Bundesliga victory after opening the campaign with a high-scoring draw before suffering a heavy home defeat to Augsburg.

With seven goals conceded already, Adi Hutter's side have the worst defensive record in the Bundesliga, continuing a worrying trend from the 2025-26 campaign.

Mainz vs. Eintracht Frankfurt – Whispers Insight

Eintracht Frankfurt were one of the founding members of the Bundesliga when the competition was established and have spent a total of 57 seasons in the top flight, making them the seventh-longest participating club in the history of the division.

While the Eagles finished eighth last season, two places above Mainz and narrowly missing out on European football, they conceded 65 goals across their 34 league matches.

That tally was four more than they scored and meant only two sides in the 18-team division conceded more goals than Frankfurt, with even the team that finished bottom of the table managing to keep more clean sheets.

That defensive weakness is something Eintracht Frankfurt will need to address sooner rather than later if they are to challenge for a return to European competition.
