Lorient head into the Breton Derby in a considerably better position than they were at the beginning of the season.
After failing to win either of their first two Ligue 1 matches in August, Alexandre Dujeux's side have gradually improved and collected points in five of their last six league outings.
Their latest result was a goalless draw away to Angers, extending their run without conceding to three consecutive league matches, while they are unbeaten in that streak.
That defensive improvement has been a major feature of their performances, with no team conceding fewer than Lorient in the division.
The hosts will also be looking to make their home advantage count, having been unbeaten in their last three Ligue 1 matches at Stade du Moustoir.
Dujeux could have several selection issues to consider, with Mohamed Bamba dealing with physical discomfort.
Bandiougou Fadiga and Noah Mbamba have been struggling with hamstring problems, while Panos Katseris has been managing muscle tightness.
Brest, meanwhile, arrive after suffering a 2-1 defeat against Nice – despite taking the lead through Ludovic Ajorque, they were unable to hold on as the visitors turned the match around.
The result followed a 1-1 draw away to Lille, leaving Julien Lachuer's side without a win in their last two league matches.
Brest’s inability to protect leads has been a recurring problem, having dropped 10 points after scoring first, and seven of them have been on the road.
They have also yet to keep a clean sheet in the league, which is a concern ahead of a derby against a Lorient side that has recently become more difficult to contain.
Brest's away form offers further reason for caution, having won only once in their last nine Ligue 1 matches on the road, with their narrow victory over Le Havre in September their only success during that period.
The visitors also have injury concerns, with Brendan Chardonnet dealing with a calf problem, while Romain Cagnon is doubtful after sustaining a knock.
Giovani Versini is unavailable with a lower-leg injury, and Raphael Le Guen continues his recovery from a broken fibula.
