Liverpool started their pre-season campaign with a 4-2 win against Sunderland on July 25, which was followed by a 1-0 win against Wrexham on July 30, and heading into 2026-27 with momentum could be vitally important.
Iraola will be pleased that his side have displayed the intent to be aggressive without the ball, a key trait of his Bournemouth team, but the Reds' press is still far from perfect.
More minutes on the pitch are clearly needed, though with the club set to begin their Premier League season on August 23 against Newcastle United, time is against the new head coach.
Iraola is known for showing trust in younger members of his squad, so it will be interesting to see whether Trey Nyoni continues to be selected in midfield now that first-team regulars Ryan Gravenberch and Florian Wirtz are available.
There is some doubt about the fitness of centre-back Jeremy Jacquet, who did not take part in team training on Friday but instead completed a gym session, and that is a serious concern given Joe Gomez is set to miss out for the next month at least.
Leeds managed to beat Sunderland 1-0 on Friday, and boss Daniel Farke was delighted with the victory, noting that his side demonstrated their ability to hold onto a narrow lead.
The Whites opened their pre-season campaign with a 3-2 defeat to Championship outfit Wrexham on July 26, but the result should not be particularly concerning to supporters given the main focus should be the squad gaining fitness.
Leeds finished 14th last term in the league with 47 points, eight points above 18th-placed West Ham United, and it is encouraging to see that the club have strengthened significantly this summer transfer window, adding players such as centre-back Tarik Muharemovic in a bid to avoid a relegation battle.
Midfielder Ilia Gruev is nearing a return from a meniscus injury, though he is set to miss out on action yet again, but former Red Harry Wilson is almost certain to feature for Leeds.
