Crystal Palace to score first

Crystal Palace have scored first in five of their last seven meetings against Liverpool.

Fresh from their Merseyside derby triumph, Liverpool will look to build momentum and strengthen their grip on a Champions League spot when they host Crystal Palace at Anfield on Saturday.

The Reds currently sit fifth in the table with 55 points, but with just three points separating them from Manchester United, a place in the top three is firmly within reach with five games remaining.

Crystal Palace, meanwhile, may have one eye on their Conference League campaign, but their league form has been encouraging, as they arrive unbeaten in their last four matches and pushing to break into the top half of the table.

A stoppage-time winner from Virgil van Dijk sealed a dramatic derby victory for Liverpool against Everton, and that result has firmly placed them in the driving seat to secure a Champions League spot, opening up a valuable cushion over the chasing pack.

The run-in, however, is anything but straightforward, and amid growing catcalls over Slot’s future, the Dutchman must first solve Liverpool’s recent kryptonite, Crystal Palace, who have already beaten them three times this season including in the Community Shield.

Anfield has not quite carried its usual aura this term, with Liverpool losing three and drawing four at home, yet there are clear signs of resurgence, having suffered just one defeat in their last 10 Premier League games on their own turf.

There is a sense of tension mixed with belief around Anfield - a ground that has witnessed both vulnerability and defiance this season, and one that now demands a statement performance at a decisive moment in the campaign. The challenge is further heightened by the fact that Liverpool are winless in their last three Premier League home meetings against Palace, but if there is a time to rewrite that narrative, it is now.

In terms of team news, Giorgi Mamardashvili is expected to be sidelined for up to four weeks after picking up an injury against Everton, while Hugo Ekitike, Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni remain long-term absentees.

There is, however, a timely boost for Slot, with Alisson Becker, Wataru Endo and Joe Gomez all returning to training ahead of this crucial encounter.

Crystal Palace find themselves in a comfortable mid-table position and could yet push for a top-10 finish, but their primary focus has clearly shifted towards their European campaign.

The Eagles are set to travel to Poland for the first leg of their Conference League semi-final against Shakhtar Donetsk just days after this trip to Anfield, and Oliver Glasner would hardly be criticised if his side fall short of their usual intensity in this fixture.

Having already guided Palace to FA Cup and Community Shield success, Glasner stands on the brink of cementing his legacy, with a potential European triumph set to become one of the most defining chapters in the club’s history.

One of the most impressive aspects of Palace’s campaign has been their away form, with seven wins on the road - three more than they have managed at Selhurst Park - underlining their ability to perform under pressure.

Glasner will definitely miss Cheick Doucoure (muscle), Evann Guessand (knee) and Eddie Nketiah (thigh) for this game, while Maxence Lacroix and Adam Wharton are both doubtful.

Whispers Predicts: Liverpool 2-1 Crystal Palace

Liverpool’s recent record against Crystal Palace does little to inspire confidence, even at Anfield, but given the visitors’ focus on Europe and the Reds’ renewed momentum, backing a home win at 1.5 still looks like a solid option.

The Reds have struggled to keep clean sheets against Palace in recent meetings, which points towards both sides finding the net again, making Liverpool win and BTTS - Yes at 2.9 an appealing bet.

In what could be his final season at the club, Mohamed Salah may not have hit his usual heights statistically, but with 10 goals and eight assists across all competitions, he remains a key threat and is backed to score anytime at 2.7.

📈 Whispers' Tips

> Match Result: Liverpool win at 1.5 | Likelihood: Probable

> Over 2.5 goals at 1.6| Likelihood: Probable

> Liverpool win and BTTS - Yes at 2.9 | Likelihood: Outsider

> Under 10.5 corners at 1.73 | Likelihood: Possible
