Liverpool to score first

Liverpool have scored first against Brentford in five of their last six meetings.

Liverpool will bid an emotional farewell to club legends Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson when they host Brentford at Anfield on Sunday in the Premier League.

The Reds sit fifth in the table with 59 points from 37 matches, knowing that a win or even a draw would be enough to secure qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League.

Brentford, meanwhile, remain in the hunt for a European place of their own, and a victory at Anfield could prove hugely significant if other results fall in their favour.

The Reds have gone through arguably their worst campaign in the past 10 years, where they suffered 12 Premier League defeats.

Liverpool are winless in their last three matches, but Arne Slot should ensure that his side does not suffer their third defeat in four matches, even though it may not trouble their Champions League hopes.

The 20-time Premier League champions have lost three times at Anfield this season, but they will be encouraged by the fact that they have not lost their final league game in any of their last 10 seasons.

This will be the final game in a Liverpool shirt for Salah, although there has been some debate whether Slot would start with the Egyptian after the winger appeared to have criticised the Dutchman on social media.

Brentford will be aiming to complete a first-ever league double over Liverpool after their 3-2 victory in the reverse fixture earlier this season.

The Bees remain in contention for a place in either the UEFA Europa League or the UEFA Europa Conference League, though they must avoid defeat and rely on favourable results elsewhere.

With just one win from their last nine matches, Keith Andrews’s side need a major response at Anfield, where they have lost on each of their previous four visits.

Brentford’s recent away form offers little encouragement, having failed to score in three of their last four road matches while remaining winless in their previous four away outings.

Whispers predicts: Liverpool 2-1 Brentford

Both sides may be enduring inconsistent runs, but Liverpool still look the stronger pick at 4/5, particularly given their strong recent record against Brentford at Anfield and the visitors’ struggles away from home.

That said, both teams have scored in each of Liverpool’s last five matches, making BTTS – Yes at 1/2 an appealing option. In that context, Liverpool to win and both teams to score at 2/1 also stands out as an attractive selection.

With five of Brentford’s last six matches producing over 2.5 goals, that market at 1/2 also looks a confident play.
