Liverpool v Chelsea first goalscorer betting tips: Nunez to strike early again?

We have provided some Liverpool v Chelsea first goalscorer betting tips ahead of Wednesday night's Premier League (PL) clash at Anfield. Incidentally, both booked their place in the Carabao Cup final last week, and now meet in the league ahead of next month's clash for silverware.

The Reds, although top of the table, will be missing star man Mohamed Salah through injury, who has provided 14 goals and eight assists in the league so far. Chelsea have also won their last three games in the division, and so this could be a close affair, with plenty of star names looking to get on the scoresheet…

Liverpool v Chelsea first goalscorer betting tips – Our picks

Darwin Nunez – 9/2

Nunez is currently favourite to open the scoring, which is no surprise considering he did so in the league last time out against Bournemouth, where he scored a brace in an emphatic 4-0 victory.

They were his sixth and seventh goals of the season, as he became the first PL player to reach double figures in goals and assists in all competitions. Nunez has actually never scored or assisted in three matches against Chelsea though, and is yet to taste the winning feeling against the Blues, so he will no doubt be hungry to get off to a fast start.

Diogo Jota – 5/1

Jota is unsurprisingly second-favourite to score first at Anfield, after he too netted a brace against Bournemouth last time out. The Portuguese has been lethal since returning from injury, scoring three and assisting three in his last three league games.

That is seven in the PL for the season now for Jota, and unlike Nunez, he has scored against Chelsea before, and has been on the winning side three times.

Luis Diaz – 61/10

Diaz could make up a dangerous front three for Liverpool without Salah, and is third-favourite to open the scoring on Wednesday. He scored the goal in the semi-final second leg against Fulham to send the Reds to the Carabao Cup final, but has not netted since November in the league.

However, Diaz has scored against Chelsea before, and has won three times in five appearances against them, so could well have a spring in his step in front of the Kop.

Cole Palmer – 10/1

If Chelsea are to open the scoring against Liverpool, then Palmer seems the most likely. Like Diaz, he scored to help the Blues reach the Carabao Cup final, and even netted twice against hapless Middlesbrough in their semi-final second leg.

Palmer also boasts nine PL goals, and has been first goalscorer in each of Chelsea's previous two league matches. Also on penalties, he is an excellent differential pick.

Armando Broja – 10/1

With Nicolas Jackson at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with Senegal, and Christopher Nkunku currently injured, Broja will be expected to lead the line against Liverpool.

He has started Chelsea's last two PL games, but has only scored once in the league this season, and that was in October. However, he has never played against Liverpool in a Chelsea shirt, and will be determined to prove his worth against one of the other traditional ‘big six'. Indeed, Broja has been linked with a move away from Chelsea this month, so will be desperate to show what he can do on the big stage.
