Liberia vs Tunisia predictions: Visitors to reign supreme

Key stats

  • Liberia suffered five defeats in their last seven encounters with Tunisia.
  • Tunisia are unbeaten in the World Cup Qualifiers so far (W3, D1).
  • Liberia trailed at half-time in five of their last seven matches in all competitions.
  • At least one team failed to score in 15 of Tunisia’s last 19 games.

Correct score prediction: Liberia 0-1 Tunisia

Three of Liberia's four qualifying games ended 1-0, and they were on the receiving end in two of those games. Interestingly, Tunisia have not conceded a single goal in four qualifying games so far. They won three of those games, two of which were 1-0 victories.

Pre-game odds and win probability: Tunisia are clear favourites

  • HOME: 19/5 (4.80) – 20.8%
  • DRAW: 2/1 (3.00) – 33.3%
  • AWAY: 3/4 (1.75) – 57.1%

*Odds from Ladbrokes, subject to change

It is important to note that while Liberia have seven points from a possible 12, they have a 1-1-2 win-draw-loss record. This is because although they lost to Equatorial Guinea, they were awarded the win because their opponents fielded an ineligible player.

On the other hand, Tunisia have been impressive in the World Cup Qualifiers, earning 10 points from four games without conceding.

With that in mind, it is unsurprising that Tunisia are the expected winners at 3/4 (1.75). Teams with these odds generally have a 57.1% probability of winning.

Interestingly, eight of Tunisia's last 11 matches went below the 1.5-goal threshold. Keeping in mind that fewer than two goals were scored in three of Liberia's four qualifying games thus far, under 1.5 total goals has an appealing look at 5/4 (2.25). That one has a 44.4% chance of landing.

The most recent clash between Liberia and Tunisia took place in September 2016. In 10 previous meetings between these sides, Tunisia have five wins, two draws and three defeats.

Moreover, Tunisia have two wins in as many encounters with Liberia in the World Cup qualifiers, after winning their two meetings in the France '98 qualifying rounds.

Player to watch: Hazem Mestouri

Although Hazem Mestouri has yet to score for Tunisia, he registered one assist in his two international appearances. The US Monastir forward has been in sensational form, scoring six goals and providing an assist in his last seven appearances. It will be interesting to see if Mestouri will score his first international goal this week.
