Lens vs Rennes Lineups and Last Match

Lens

Lens were stunned in round 1 when they lost 2-3 away vs Brest. Lens led 2–0 at halftime in this match but they underestimated the situation in the second half and paid the ultimate price.

Lens had the best home record in the league last season though. They won 17 of their 19 home matches losing just twice.

Already have some selection issues. Both Thomasson and El Anyaoui will miss the game suspended. Also, centre-back Gradit is going to be absent due to a knee injury. Haidara looked shaky covering for him last weekend but might have to start again.

Predicted Lineup – Samba (GK), Haidara, Danso, Medina, Frankowski, Samed, Diouf, Machado, Sotoca, Fulgini & Guilavogui

Rennes

Rennes began their season with an impressive 5-1 home win against the newly promoted Metz team. Stretching back to last season Rennes have now won 5 consecutive league games and they have scored at least 2 goals in all of those wins.

The main selection issues are at left-back. There is no typical player for the position on the roster and Belocian didn’t do very well filling in in the first game. He might have to start in the role again as Rennes are yet to complete the anticipated signing of a new left-back. The regular in the role Truffert is set for a long spell out. Also, winger Terrier is still unavailable.

Predicted Lineup – Mandanda (GK), Assignon, Omari, Theate, Belocian, Santamaria, Bourigeaud, Le Fee, Doku, Gouiri & Kalimuendo

Player to Watch: Florian Sotoca

Striker Florian Sotoca was very unlucky in round 1 as twice his shots came off the woodwork. Lens need Sotoca’s goals if they are to be challenging for the title this season. The striker was excelling at home all of the previous campaign. He scored 7 of his last 8 goals on home turf.

After a lively but unfortunate showing in round 1 now Sotoca will be extra motivated to shine.
