Home team to win

Lazio have only lost once in their last eight games across all competitions.

Lazio will look to continue their good start to the new season when they take on Genoa at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome on Sunday in Serie A.

After a narrow win in their first game of the campaign, home supporters will hope their team can secure their first home victory.

Meanwhile, the visitors will want to avoid another defeat after a disappointing loss in their first game of the season.

Lazio were backed by a sold-out away section as new manager Gennaro Gattuso guided them to a 1-0 victory at Bologna in their Serie A opener.

The Biancocelesti could claim their second league win for just the second time in their last 14 top-flight campaigns.

However, only around 4,000 season-ticket holders are expected to attend this fixture, with the majority boycotting matches due to concerns surrounding the club’s ownership and their direction.

The effects of the ongoing issues have already been evident this season, with Serie B side Mantova eliminating Lazio from the Coppa Italia on home soil in front of their supporters earlier this month.

Despite that, Lazio can take confidence from their record of winning their opening home league game in four of the last five Serie A seasons.

Genoa, meanwhile, comfortably defeated Serie B side Ascoli 4-1 in the Coppa Italia, but their Serie A campaign began with a disappointing 2-0 home defeat to Napoli.

Having also struggled towards the end of last season after securing their survival, Daniele De Rossi’s side now face the possibility of suffering four consecutive Serie A defeats for the first time since December 2021.

Coincidentally, Lazio were the team that defeated Genoa in the fourth game of that poor run five years ago.

On a more positive note, Roma legend Daniele De Rossi has lost just eight of his 33 career head-to-head meetings with Lazio as a player and manager, and he will be hoping to take advantage of the Biancocelesti’s current situation.

Whispers predicts: Lazio 2-1 Genoa

Lazio enter this fixture as clear favourites to claim maximum points, and we expect them to claim their second win of the season.

I Biancocelesti have enjoyed strong head-to-head results against Genoa in recent years, winning four of their last six meetings across all competitions.

Furthermore, the visitors have struggled to score consistently on their travels, making a home win the most logical outcome.

The bookmakers have made Lazio favourites at odds of 1/1 (2.00) to claim a home victory.

A draw is priced at 11/5 (3.20), which represents a plausible outcome if the visitors defend resolutely, while an away win for Genoa is offered at 16/5 (4.20).

Given that recent matches between these two sides have featured goals at both ends, over 2.5 goals is priced at 137/100 (2.37)

Both teams to score (yes) is available at 21/20 (2.05) odds, while a home team (first-half win) stands at 81/50 (2.62) odds.
