Man Utd shortlist five midfielders ahead of summer transfer window

It has become increasingly apparent that Man Utd are looking to bolster the engine room ahead of next season, and new reports suggest they have as many as five players on their shortlist.
Among the top candidates are Newcastle United duo Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes, but it is unlikely that the Magpies part ways with either, let alone both, with Real Madrid also mentioned with interest.
Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson continues to be linked, while Crystal Palace's rising star Adam Wharton and Wolverhampton Wanderers' Joao Gomes fill are the other three potential targets.
It remains to be seen which way the Red Devils will go, but given the imminent departure of Casemiro, it's clear that United will sign at least one midfielder this summer.
Arsenal to battle Liverpool for Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni

Arsenal may be leading the Premier League heading into the closing stages of the football calendar, but that isn't stopping them from looking to bolster the squad for next season.
And according to reports, the Gunners are in an intense battle to sign Inter Milan centre-back Alessandro Bastoni, alongside top-flight rivals Liverpool and La Liga giants Real Madrid.
The 26-year-old will be a hugely coveted player in the summer, and it's thought that the Serie A side are looking for a fee in the region of £90m.
Chelsea and Man City have also been linked to the Italy international, but it appears Arsenal are leading the race, due to Bastoni being a perfect fit for Mikel Arteta's system.
Man City want to re-sign Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha

Man City are the latest club to enter the race to sign Borussia Dortmund star Felix Nmecha ahead of the summer transfer window.
The 25-year-old midfielder was once on the books at the Etihad Stadium, and according to reports in Germany, the link between the two still remains strong, with City continuing to monitor his progress.
Valued at around £60 million, Nmecha wouldn't be a cheap investment, particularly considering the club let him leave for free back in 2023.
Liverpool, as well as arch-rivals Man Utd, are also said to be keen on signing the German international.
