The mid-season MLS break for the World Cup appeared to come at the worst possible time for St Louis City, who were in the midst of a five-match unbeaten run when the league paused.
However, they demonstrated against Sporting Kansas City last week that they had not lost any of their momentum as they ran out 3-2 winners in what was one of the best matches of the season so far.
While St Louis would have expected to defeat the Western Conference's worst team, the fact they won it in the 85th minute after being pegged back from 2-0 to 2-2, will give them immense confidence coming into this one.
Celio Pompeu and Roman Burki are both out injured for the visitors, who could start with the same team that defeated Sporting Kansas City.
As for LA Galaxy, the break arguably came at a good time, as they had just won one of their last three MLS matches prior to the World Cup pause.
Having said that, the break has not exactly proven to be a successful reset for the Galaxy, as they were dire in their first post-World Cup match, losing 3-0 to Los Angeles FC in the LA derby.
Greg Vanney's men may have had more possession in the match, but they did very little with it, registering just two shots on target despite having 60% of the ball against their local rivals.
Vanney will expect a response this week, and he will almost certainly make changes. In terms of injuries, he will be without Edwin Cerrillo, Joao Klauss, Riqui Puig and Erik Thommy.
