LA Galaxy were lucky to come away with a point against San Jose Earthquakes last weekend when the two teams played out a 1-1 stalemate at PayPal Park.
Joseph Paintsil gave the visitors a dream start to the tie when he finished off a brilliant counter in the 13th minute, but Reid Roberts restored parity in the 62nd minute before San Jose striker Timo Werner saw his 95th-minute penalty saved by goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski.
With that result, LA Galaxy have failed to taste victory in four consecutive league games — picking up just two points from a possible 12 — having gone unbeaten in four of the five games preceding this run.
This drop-off in form has been owing to their struggles at the defensive end of the pitch, where Greg Vanney’s men have managed just two clean sheets in the league this season while shipping 29 goals so far.
Despite their recent woes, LA Galaxy remain within striking distance of the playoff places as they sit 11th in the Western Conference table, with a win on Sunday enough to potentially lift them into the Western Conference top nine.
Playing their fourth straight MLS game on the road, Dallas saw their three-game unbeaten run come to an end last weekend when they fell to a 1-0 defeat against San Diego FC at the Snapdragon Stadium.
