Two domestic champions collide in the UEFA Champions League second qualifying round first leg as KI Klaksvik prepare to host Kauno Zalgiris at the Við Djúpumýrar Stadium on Tuesday, 21 July.

Klaksvik, based in the Faroe Islands' second‑largest city, arrive on the back of their third league title in four years. Kauno Zalgiris, meanwhile, enter as reigning Lithuanian champions for the first time in their 22‑year history.

Klaksvik have taken a huge step towards qualifying for their maiden UEFA Champions League group stages appearance. The last time they came this close, in 2024/25, they were knocked out by Swedish powerhouses Malmo.

The Faroese champions enter the second qualifying round following back-to-back 2-1 wins over Atert Bissen, eliminating the Luxembourg outfit thanks to Pall Klettskard’s second-half strike in the return leg.

The consecutive victories come days after back-to-back winless outings in their domestic league, over the course of which they failed to score a single goal.

Magnus Powell has no injury concerns on his hands. Powell and his team will host the Lithuanian side at full strength.

At the same time, Kauno Zalgiris are full of confidence after their historic league title win last year. They are currently on course for successive league title accolades.

Zeljko Sopic’s team beat Albanian champions FC Drita 4-3 on aggregate in the first qualifying round.  

After the second leg, they returned to domestic proceedings with a 4-0 win over FA Siauliai, extending their unbeaten run to seven games across all competitions in the process.

The last time they tasted defeat was over a month ago, a 1-0 loss to Banga in TOPLYGA in mid-June.

Klaksvik may have the home advantage in the first leg, but Zalgiris look the better prepared team thanks to their fantastic unbeaten streak. They are relatively more match-ready, and a Kauno Zalgiris win at 2/1 (3.00) offers excellent value.

Both sides come into this fixture in high spirits, although Kauno Zalgiris are on a longer unbeaten run. Klaksvik seem to have recovered their scoring touch after back-to-back goalless games. BTTS – Yes at 1/1 (2.00) is a no-brainer.
