KI Klaksvik head into their home leg of Europa League qualifying on Thursday needing to overturn a deficit to progress to the playoff round, having gone behind in the tie in last week's away leg.
They began their continental campaign in the first round of Champions League qualifying, having regained the Faroe Islands Premier League title in 2025, advancing with a 4-2 aggregate win over Atert Bissen, thanks to a 2-1 win in each leg, but they failed to progress through the second round, falling just short against Kauno Zalgiris in a 1-0 aggregate loss.
That set up their entry into Europa League qualifying in the third round with a tie against Lech Poznan, but they now return home with a tough task at hand, albeit having kept themselves in the contest as the game in Poland ended in a 1-0 defeat after they kept it level until the final 10 minutes.
Magnus Powell's side have since fallen to a second consecutive defeat, losing 2-0 to HB Torshavn on Sunday, seeing them drop to second spot in the Faroe Islands Premier League as a result, despite having managed 34 points from their 18 games, scoring 33 goals and conceding just 14 along the way.
Now hoping to put the recent disappointment behind them, relying on the likes of Arni Ferederiksberg, who has notched up six goals and 12 assists in the Faroe Islands top flight this term, after recording 18 and 17 respectively in just 25 league matches last time around, KI Klaksvik must come out on top on the night to stand a chance of progressing in Europa League qualifying.
Their visitors, meanwhile, arrive in the Faroe Islands with a slender lead to defend from their home leg and their sights set on the playoff round.
After winning the Polish Ekstraklasa for the second straight year last time around, Lech Poznan enjoyed a perfect start to their European campaign, beating Aarhus 4-1 in the away leg of their Champions League qualifying second-round tie, only to lose by the same scoreline at home and fall short in the eventual penalty shootout.
That saw the Kolejorz drop into the running for the Europa League, in which they met KI Klaksvik in the penultimate stage and gained a small advantage on home soil last week, as Yannick Agnero broke the deadlock with the only goal nine minutes from time.
Niels Frederiksen's team then made it three wins on the bounce at the weekend, beating Piast 3-0 to move onto seven points from the first three games of their Ekstraklasa defence including two clean sheets and making it five wins from seven competitive matches this season.
They now head into the second leg needing to draw or better on the night to confirm their progression to the final stage of qualifying before the Europa League's league phase.

Whispers predicts: KI Klaksvik 0-2 Lech Poznan (Lech Poznan win 3-0 on aggregate)
While KI Klaksvik now have home advantage and are forced to chase the game on Thursday to stand a chance in the tie, they failed to break through Lech Poznan in the reverse fixture and in either leg of their Champions League qualifier against Kauno Zalgiris. We see them being frustrated again and back Both Teams to Score – No at 1/1 (2.00).
Indeed, if the hosts do attack more than in the away leg, where they only managed one shot on target, they may leave themselves open to be countered, and we fancy Lech Poznan to make their superior quality count and win the game at 1/2 (1.50).
They may focus on protecting their advantage after going any further ahead, though, and given the Polish side only managed a 1-0 victory with a late goal in their home leg, we do not envisage them dishing out a beating in the Faroe Islands. Instead, we fancy under 2.5 goals in the game at 27/20 (2.35).
> Both Teams to Score – No at 1/1 (2.00) | Likelihood: Probable
> Lech Poznan to win at 1/2 (1.50) | Likelihood: Likely
> Under 2.5 goals at 27/20 (2.35) | Likelihood: Possible
