Authenticity (3.5/5): Fabrizio Romano throws City's name into the mix
Abdukodir Khusanov has emerged as one of the most exciting defensive talents in Ligue 1. The 20-year-old has been previously linked with Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur.
Now the very reliable and reputed journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Manchester City have added the Lens star to their January short-list.

Value (3/5): Snap him before it's too late
Our previous report highlighted that Khusanov is valued at around £25 million by the Ligue 1 outfit. Now that City have joined the race, expect the fee to inflate further. The interested clubs need to act fast this month before more sides join the queue for the talented central defender, who continues to impress with his mature style of play.
Suitability (3/5): Duel monster
The 6'1” centre-back might not be the most gifted player with the ball at his feet but he is an immense presence out of possession. City do like to build up from back, but they are in a desperate need of a resilient figure to stabilise their frail defence.
Upgrade? (3.5/5): Direct Ake replacement
Injury crisis at the back has forced Pep Guardiola to consistently tweak his backline. Khusanov would not only add numbers, but he is perfectly capable of challenging Ruben Dias for the starting spot and replacing Nathan Ake, who has been an inconsistent presence in defence for the Citizens.
Logic (2/5): A move too big
Leny Yoro, another defensive prodigy from French football, recently moved to Manchester and have attracted plenty of headlines owing to the size of the club and their struggles. City are going through a similar phase as such Khusanov needs to carefully consider if he is ready to face the intense pressure and scrutiny that comes with playing for a big club.
Whisper+ verdict: 15/25
Romano's name alongside any transfer update is enough to grab our attention. Considering City's financial might, they could blow any competition for Khusanov out of the water.
