Correct score prediction: K-League Allstars 2-3 Newcastle
K-League Allstars have lost two of two encounters with Premier League sides, although both defeats came at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur.
Although Newcastle United have lost four consecutive games, they have a better squad than Team K-League. On that note, we are leaning towards the Magpies to win a high-scoring contest.
Most recent H2Hs: First clash
This will be the first meeting between Team K-League and Newcastle United.
K-League Allstars preview: Lee and Kim withdraw
Derived from the South Korean top-flight, the best 22 players, as decided by fan votes, will make Wednesday’s matchday squad to take on Newcastle at the Suwon World Cup Stadium.
In previous years, K-League Allstars played four games (W1, D1, L2), with their only victory coming against Diego Simeone’s side Atletico Madrid in 2023. Once again led by Ulsan Hyundai's coach Pan-gon Kim, Team K-League will look to improve their showing in the annual football get-together.
Pohang Steelers defender Tae-seok Lee and Daejeon Hana Citizen defender Moon-hwan Kim, will not be available for the K-League Allstars against Newcastle after both players had made the starting XI as voted by the fans. This is because of an injury to the former and personal reasons for the latter. In their stead, the K-League selected Pohang defender Jeong-won Eo and FC Anyang defender Thomas Oude Kotte.
Coach Kim prefers the 4-2-3-1 tactical system which means he will most likely start one man up front, presumably the K-League’s top scorer, Jin-woo Jeon, who plies his trade with Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors.
South Korea and Ulsan Hyundai goalkeeper Hyeon-woo Jo is favoured to begin this contest in goal.
Predicted lineup: Jo (GK), Eo, Kotte, Park, Marcelo, Bojanic, Oberdan, J. Kim, Asani, D. Lee & Jeon.
Newcastle United preview: Looking to halt their losing run
As for Newcastle, this clash with Team K-League forms part of their 2025 Coupang Play Series, which has Tottenham, Espanyol and Atletico Madrid as the other matches lined up before the commencement of the Premier League season.
Things have largely not gone well for Eddie Howe’s side on and off the pitch. On the pitch, it's been back-to-back losses this preseason to Celtic and Arsenal. Off the pitch, things have been quiet as regards signings, while there are growing concerns about the possible departure of star forward Alexander Isak, who remains unavailable for the Magpies due to a slight injury.
Summer signing Anthony Elanga was on the scoresheet on Sunday and is expected to line up in a three-man attack alongside Harvey Barnes and Anthony Gordon.
Predicted lineup: Pope (GK), Krafth, Botman, Burn, Targett, Joelinton, Tonali, Miley, Elanga, Gordon & Barnes.
