Key stats

  • Istanbul Basaksehir have won three games in a row.

Correct score prediction: Istanbul Basaksehir 2-0 Cherno More

Despite having the advantage of playing at home, Cherno More suffered a 1-0 defeat in the first leg of this tie last week. Istanbul Basaksehir preview: Eyeing their fourth consecutive victory

Basaksehir will look to get the job done at home when they host Cherno More on Thursday. A 52nd-minute strike from captain Omer Sahiner handed Cagdas Atan’s men a 1-0 win on the road, putting them in the driving seat for a place in the third qualifying round.

The Owls got to the league phase of this competition last season where they impressed in the early stages. However, they ultimately failed to reach the knockout stage.

Centre-back Jerome Opoku remains the only injury absentee for this game. His absence won't be much of an issue for coach Atan, who is expected to stick with his strongest XI in a 4-3-3 formation.

Predicted lineup: Sengezer (GK), Operi, Ba, Duarte, Bulut, Sahiner, Ozdemir, Crespo, Sari, Brnic & Da Costa.

Cherno More preview: Celso Sidney questionable

Cherno More were knocked out at this stage last season, losing 2-1 on aggregate to Israeli club Hapoel Be’er Sheva. Only a strong showing in Istanbul can help them avoid the fate they suffered last campaign.

New signing Celso Sidney is in a race to be fit for this clash after sustaining an injury in the first leg defeat. Should the Portuguese forward be ruled out, Phellipe Cardoso Araujo will most likely lead the line for the Sailors in Ilian Iliev’s preferred 4-2-3-1 formation.

Predicted lineup: Iliev (GK), Donchev, Atanasov, Drobarov, Panov, Panayotov, Teles, Junior, Chandarov, Zlatev & Araujo.

After scoring 13 goals and providing two assists in 29 league assignments for Kasimpasa last season, Nuno da Costa joined Istanbul Basaksehir earlier this month. The 34-year-old got his first goal contribution on his competitive debut, setting up the only goal in the first leg of this tie. It will be interesting to see how he performs on Thursday night.
